Margaret Smith Obituary

MARGARET ELLEN SMITH (MIMI), wonderful and loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, born the 2nd of June, 1914 in San Marcos Texas to Gaston and Ethel Hartsfield, passed away with her children by her side on Monday, the 17th of August, 2009 in Houston from complications of surgery. She was 95 years young and still loved to shop and be out and about. Her sense of fashion was unmatched, and she loved to dress up. The daughter of a Methodist minister, Mrs. Smith was a true Southern Belle her entire life, and always had a smile on her face. She was that rare breed that was as beautiful and wonderful on the inside as she was on the outside. In spite of her classic beauty she turned down offers to be an actress in favor of being a Texas homemaker for her husband dentist Dr. Jack Smith who preceded her in death in 1993 after 50 years of marriage, and her brother Warren Moore Hartsfield who passed in 1960. She is survived by her daughter Jaclyn Ellen Smith and her husband Dr. Bradley Scott Allen; grandchildren Gaston Anthony Richmond and Spencer Margaret Richmond, all of Los Angeles, CA; a son Thomas Hartsfield Beville Sr. and his wife Charlotte of Luling Texas; their children Thomas Hartsfield Beville Jr. and his wife Anne; great-grandchildren Forrest Thomas and Falon Anne all of Austin; Michael Eugene Beville and his wife Debra; great-grandchildren Paige Catherine and Collin Michael all of Austin; Larry Duane Beville and his wife Margaret; great-grandchildren Lauren Margaret and Lindsay Charlotte, all of New Braunfels; her best friend and niece Dolores Malone; niece Mary Malone; cousin Margery Harpley, and her dog Honey-Bun, all of Houston. Mrs. Smith loved life, and in turn was loved by all who knew her. She was an extraordinary and unique woman who touched and enriched the lives of everyone she met, which explains why so many in Houston and beyond are today celebrating her life. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until nine o'clock in evening on Friday, the 21st of August, in the Parlor of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. The funeral service is to be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 22nd of August, at First United Methodist Church, 1320 Main Street in Houston. The entombment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at the Memorial Mission Mausoleum at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.

Dear Jaclyn and family;
So very sorry about the passing of your mother. I just recently lost mine and I
understand fully the loss and pain you are
feeling. They say that time heals everything. But it doesn't always heal the loss of someone so special; especially a mother.
God Bless You. You are in my prayers.

Dear Jaclyn Smith
I'm praying for you and your family I read about your mother passing on Monday I asked God to give you strength in these during times. I lost my mother on August 14, 2001, she was 78yrs old we are bless your mother was 95yrs old. I lost my brother first in 1998. My mother worried her self to death because she was so close to us. I loved her dearly she was my best friend and she passed down contagious religion the most wonderful gift a mother can give to her children and just like Mrs. Smith gave to you keep praying God will give you the strength you need trust me. I know how it feels to sit in that front row keep looking to the hills that comit your health. Hold us up Lord-Lord, we know you're always busy, for you've many things to do, but when sorrow overcomes us, well, we need to talk to you, for we've lost someone precious, and they're with you there above, and its someone that we love. We are feeling lost and all alone, and though we do believe, we need you, Lord to hold us up, to help us while we grieve. Please give us what we must bear, and nudge us when our faith is weak to remind us you are there. Give us hope for our tomorrow, tell us life will still go on, show us Lord, that all this darkness will be followed by the drawn. You have led us through so many things, you've pulled us through before, hold us up, Lord, till we're through this and we are strong once more.
To an angel, I've never met you, but I passed the church today after work and I saw the cars parked out front and my co-workers escorting you to the cemetery. Jaclyn I have followed your career take care of yourself and I do love you our parents are the true angels they will continue to pray for us while in Heaven and our families too we will continue their legacy through our goodness and giving. (we had praying parents) Ms. Jery Bennett

Dear Ellen,
My last memory of your wonderful mother was in New York City, when we had a chance meeting at Sak's Fifth Avenue. She was vibrant and gracious. Stunningly, she told me that she and my father, Jack Walker, had "dated" before either of us were a twinkle an any eye at all. I thought when she told me, how cool of both of them. I would have been a horrible brother, but you would have been a wonderful sister.
I am now a sort of retired Episcopal Priest serving a parish on the Eastside of Austin until they find a new Rector. It is St. James' and is historically an African American congregation, begun back in segregation, and I can only hope that my father Jack finds that a fun thing to consider from heaven. It will be nice for your mom and my dad to see each other again after all this time......assuming he made the trip up. I'm sure your mom did. In the meantime, please know that you and your family will be in our prayers. And Ellen, these are Eastside Austin prayers, and they are very robust. Please know that your mother will be remembered in the Holy Eucharist this Sunday. You will be in those prayers too.
Peace and heaven,
Jeff Walker+

My condolences on the loss of your mother. Our mothers were born only months apart (June/November) in towns only a few miles apart (San Marcus/Yoakum) and lived their adult lives only miles apart in Houston. Both were beautifully long-lived.
