James Suttles Obituary

James Charles
Suttles Jr. of Houston passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 to be with his Lord and Savior. Jim was born on June 17, 1942 and recently celebrated his 70th birthday with his beloved family on a fun-filled, memorable weekend getaway.
Jim is preceded in death by his father James Charles Suttles, mother Francis Fitzgerald Suttles, daughter Jennifer Jean Suttles and niece Alexis Kyle Cardiff Suttles.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife Margaret Kenyon Suttles; son James Charles Suttles IV and daughter-in-law Jamie Shoemaker Suttles; step-daughter Eleanor Reese Gray and son-in-law Geoffrey Milton Gray; step-daughter Kathleen Reese Semple and son-in-law Robert Christopher Semple; grandchildren James Benton Suttles, Whitney Kenyon Gray, Jackson Charles Semple and Robert Charles Semple; sister Susan Alice Suttles Haden and brother-in-law Douglas; brother Jefferies Cardiff Suttles and sister-in-law Jeanne; nephew Michael David Eyre and his wife, Cindy; niece Allison Fitzgerald Eyre McKee; niece Josephine Dory Suttles Giles and her husband, Jason; nephew John Howard McCoy Suttles; niece Ann Bell Ligon Suttles; former wife and mother of his children, Jamie Ann Wright Johnson and her husband, Byron; and many cousins and countless number of loyal friends.
Jim was a 6th generation Houstonian who attended Lamar High School, Cushing Academy and the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Jim began his career in commercial real estate and eventually leveraged his experiences into a career in the title insurance industry.
Everyone who met Jim enjoyed his warm, loving, and funny disposition. He was incredibly generous and intensely devoted to both his family and to the church. He cherished his family, friends and colleagues and truly appreciated their love and support throughout his life, especially during his battle with cancer. Jim was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma in December 2010 and throughout his fight, he maintained his positive attitude and upbeat spirit while relying heavily on his unwavering faith. Jim loved to hunt, golf, travel and spend time at the lake in New Hampshire.
His family would like to sincerely thank MD Anderson Cancer Center, specifically Dr. Nathan Fowler, Liz Soreson, Keri Gardner and all of the kind, caring staff in the Lymphoma Clinic.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Second Baptist Church Sanctuary located at 6400 Woodway, Houston, Texas 77057. Rev. I never got the pleasure of meeting Jim face to face, but I did have the pleasure of speaking with him on the phone at least a couple of times a month since July of 2007. We provided computer services for Jim. He would call in anytime he needed help with something. Some customers you dread hearing from. That was NEVER the case with Jim. I loved taking his calls and so did my staff. None of us can remember a single time when Jim was cranky. He was always jovial and always got us to laughing with him. We all felt blessed after getting off a call with Jim. He will be greatly missed by all of us at ACTRemote.

Maggi,

I know that you know just how special Jim was to all of us at MDA. I will never forget the amazing individual that Jim was. He was so courageous and had the most unbelievably positive attitude throughout his entire battle with lymphoma. I knew how special you both were from the minute that we met. I feel absolutely blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know Jim and participate in his care. He was much more than just a patient to me, and I know that he knew that. I can only hope that I made as much of an impact on his life as he made on mine. I know that Jim is at peace now, free from pain and suffering, in a glorious and beautiful place with the Lord. I find comfort in knowing that Jim is looking over all of us as an angel in Heaven and that we will meet again one day. I will be thinking about you and praying for you and your family during this very difficult time. Keep in touch and please do not ever hesitate to call me if you need anything.

Mr. Suttles was always so dear to me. When Jennifer and I were hanging out at their house looking for something to do... he could entertain us for hours. So much fun, that man! I am happy to hear that Jenni (the ultimate "daddy's girl") has her father back by her side, but sad for those of us left behind.

Alice and Martha Craig told me. I have not seen Jimmy in a long time; but every memory I have of him is of his gentleness and sweet spirit. What a dear man. You have my prayers and sympathy. Your old West Lane neighbor, Suzie Hess Edmonson.

One of my more humorous times with Jim was when we were closing the construction loan on Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Co. I was in Dallas and he was sliding down the icy roads in Colorado working on that end. I must say, I had the safer part of the job on that one.

Maggie and Family: I knew Jim for 15+ years, professionally, and at every meeting and with every phone call, Jim put me in a better mood. We often spoke of New England - my home, and of his wonderful family. He was a prince of a fellow and will be, forever, missed. I am a richer person having known him.
