William Leebron Obituary

William Michael Leebron II ~ 68 "Captain Mike" passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 6th at his home in historic East Columbia from a massive heart attack after working on his beloved paddle wheeler the "Brazos Belle".
Mike was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Elk City, Oklahoma but lived most of his life in Houston and Sargent, Texas. He graduated from University of Oklahoma and Baylor Law School after serving in the U.S. Army as First Lt. Mike started his illustrious legal career representing those injured through the fault of others. He began his practice with the firm of Brown and Haden but shortly thereafter joined with Laron D. Robinson in starting his own firm Leebron & Robinson, PC. He was a partner at Fibich, Hampton, Leebron, Briggs and Josephson, LLP at the time of his death. He was the consummate trial lawyer, winning his cases while showing the utmost devotion to his clients. Ironically, those opposing him in the courtroom often revered him at the conclusion of their case.
Mike was elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates, the most prestigious trial lawyer organization in the United States. Duck hunting and Texas history were two of Mike's biggest passions. His love of people kept him busy at his bar, Belle's Landing or on his paddleboat teaching others the importance of local history and river conservation. Mike had so many talents and interests but will be most remembered for the number of lives he touched with his generous spirit and honest interest in his friends and new friends that he met every day.
Mike is survived by his partner of 19 years Marlene Mouchette, his daughter and light of his life Chausey Leebron Jameson, Chausey's mother Diane Leebron, grandson Luke Leebron Jameson, son-in-law Sam Jameson, sister Mary Dangelmayr and husband John, sister Andrea Leebron Clay and husband Jim, brother Jack Leebron and wife Linda and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Mike will be missed by his beloved family of rescued dogs, Griz, Bumper, Cedar, Ozzie and Thor.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your local animal rescue organization.
A service and celebration of Mike's life will be held at the historic Parador Houston, 2021 Binz Street, Houston Texas 77004 from 2:30 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, July 11, 2013.

A man never had a better big brother. At times, yes I wanted to wring his necklace occasion, but it would have cost me a broken nose to attempt such a stupid feat. This is now 2021. September is here and OU football is starting this weekend. I remember visiting Mike while he was at OU, but those are probably stories left for a different venue. I miss my brother. My sister misses him more so. I can empathize with Chaucey, and I hurt for Luke and Marlene. Like Mike, I´m just sitting here on the porch with my dog.

I never met a man so pure of heart, as Michael Leebron. He was my mentor. And any time I asked him "what he thought I should do, about any given situation, he would tell me straight out, whether I was wasting my money, or once and only once, did he say, I should fight something. And never once took me up on my offer to pay him, just like any other client. He even helped me, by introducing me to Michael McSpadden, for a research paper I was doing in college. He loved to help, especially if he saw that the results did help someone step up their game and become a better contribution to society. I used to get kidded a lot about my last name being Meek, bc of the beatitudes in the Bible, " Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."
When it comes to Michael, I can't think of anything more fitting to describe him than "Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall be with God." What a truly, good man this planet has lost.

July 31, 2013

I just found out yesterday, about the loss of the kindest, most generous, and pure of heart men I ever met. I am truly bereaved at the moment. I've known Mike since 1976, and out of all those years, he would tell me straight out, advice about matters that would pop up over the years, like, "forgot your ring, forget the furniture, sorry honey, there just aren't any laws governing this situation yet." And most of the time my anger over some stupid little injustice, were not worth hiring a lawyer over. Only once did he say, "Go for it", but oddly enough, I would offer him money, or beg him to treat me as a regular client, and he wouldn't hear of it. I always hear, "Blessed are the Meek for they shall inherit the earth." And man, when they say "Blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God" , Leebron is there.
He was my mentor, the person I would turn to for advice after my folks were gone, and this is the kind of man Michael Leebron was---when I was in college, he helped set up an Interview with Michael Mc Spadden for one of my research papers AND took the time to read a short story in poem version from front to back about the first incident I came cryin' to him about; I guess it was one of the VERY few times he had 5 min.s to spare out of 37 years of knowing how busy he was. And he could have been making 2 to 300 an hour and just said, "Cool that you took a neg. and made a positive out of this tragedy", but If I recall, he said he had studied literature in school, and therefore took the time to read the whole damn thing. What a guy!! You are missed, and you forever will be missed. PS (I've heard that he has a daughter in Austin, not far from where I live. I would love to meet you. I feel so bad that I promised him a big ol' pot of gumbo, since he wouldn't take money, for years but I was kind of afraid the seafood might go bad by the time I got it to Houston. Maybe I could repay some of the kindness to the next generation. My name is Debbie Meek and my number is 512 769 9535.

I had the honor of knowing Mike for a short period of time. I have been an employee at FHLBJ for about a year and a half. Mike's office down the hall from mine. It is hard to come into a new work environment. He would walk by my office and make small talk. One day our conversation led to working out and he found out I was also a certified personal trainer. He told me of his love for lifting weights and asked for my opinion on exercises he could do for his knee. I researched and gave him a few. You would have thought I was the smartest trainer in all of Houston. He was so thankful for my suggestions and made me feel extremely happy to help. He even offered my family and I a free ride of the Belle for my input! After that, we had our common ground to discuss and I looked forward to hearing his comments and laugh every day. Mike, just want you to know that I will always think of you on "leg day". I hit my quads extra hard this week just for you! You are greatly missed.

You were a wonderful educator and taught all of us who were blessed enough to work for you lessons about life and the law that we carry with us to this very day. I remember, as a kid, thinking that uncle Mike was indestructible. We all looked at his accomplishments in amazement. He proved time and time again, to be the person who would always be there when you needed him most. Our family lost a great man. I was completely shocked by the tragic news. Now, more than ever, I understand why I was called, "little Mike," when we were both at family gatherings. I wear his name with pride. Go well, uncle, I'll see you again some day.

Marlene & Family: Words cannot express my sorrow about Mike's passing. He will be sorely missed by all....

July 10, 2013

I was a fraternity brother of Mike's at OU and a roomate with him in the US Army for six weeks. We have lost a great friend of immense intellect, charm and wit. Mike was one of the most interesting and dynamic characters I have ever met, socially or professionally. But, he definitely lived a full and very rich life while he enriched the lives of all he touched along his life journey. I was but one of them. I will sorely miss you, brother!

God Bless.

Mere words just can't express how much I will miss WML. He gave me the opportunity to work for him beginning in 1979 and literally changed the course of my life. He was so much more than a boss, he was a friend who cared deeply about his staff. I will always hold dear in my heart his kindness and willingness to help out during uncertain times in my life; even after leaving the firm. He was the best...I'll miss you Boss. My thoughts and prayers are with the Leebron family and pray God will comfort you during this time.
