Gail Revis Obituary

Gail Revis
1944-2015
Gail Hartshorn Revis passed away on October 9, 2015. Born in Jefferson City, Missouri on June 22, 1944 to educators1 Dr. H. Hadley Hartshorn and Mrs. Goldie Reid Hartshorn, Gail moved to Houston when her father began his career as a Dean at Texas Southern University. Gail was a proud graduate of Jack Yates High School. She went to Howard University and earned a degree in Psychology and Education and was initiated into the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She earned a Master of Science degree in Guidance and Counseling from TSU. Always helping youth, she had an impactful career within the Houston Independent School District. Gail exemplified grace and strength. She exemplified grace by her commitment to the AKA motto: "service to all mankind." She exemplified strength through her participation in the Civil Rights Movement. Gail captured her grandchildren's attention and admiration whenever she told of her contributions to the civil rights struggle, including her arrest and overnight stay in a city jail for her part in integrating a Baltimore, Maryland movie theatre. Having served on many boards, she was proud of her affiliation with the Children's Defense Fund. Cherishing her memory are a son, John Peavy, III (wife, Laura); grandchildren Lauren, John Cameron, Julian and Chase; her brother, Hadley (wife, Henrietta) and loved ones. A memorial will be held November 7, 2015, 3:00 pm at HOPE Church, 4209 W. Broadway St, Pearland, TX. Donations to the Children's Defense Fund or Sisters Network, Inc. are encouraged.

I just learned of Gail's passing this week and I would like to send my prayers and condolences to her family.
To her son John, know that your mother loved you more than anything she had on earth. Be proud of her work and dedication to all of the children that her life impacted.
She was the best Director of Counseling in HISD, and Texas should be proud for what she did for Guidance and Counselling.
The last time that I saw Gail was at Sams' Warehouse where she told me she was there looking for bedding for some children.
I will truly miss her.
