Kimberly Burleson Obituary

Kimberly Yates Burleson
1966-2017
Kimberly Yates Burleson, age 50, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Thursday May 11, 2017 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Kimberly was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. She was the daughter of Patricia Frese Yates and the late Samuel Arthur Yates. She graduated from the University of Texas, where she met her one and only love, Mark Lee Burleson during her sophomore year. After graduation, they made Houston their home and were married for 26 years. She worked at Toronto Dominion Bank until she threw her energy into raising her children, John Samuel, Madeline & Davis. Her children were her life's work, and it was a job that she relished. Kimberly celebrated every milestone of each of her children's accomplishments, large and small, and made sure they always felt her pride and her joy in being their mother. Filled with compassion and interest in others, Kimberly made friends easily and maintained close relationships with so many, including her Chi Omega sorority sisters. She was an avid tennis player and a member of the Houston Racquet Club and Lakeside Country Club. She volunteered with the Junior League of Houston, National Charity League & Alpha Charity League. She was also a Volunteer Spanish teacher at Hunters Creek Elementary. As a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, her faith was always her source of strength. She considered her life truly overflowing with God's blessings and relied upon her deep faith to carry her through her illness. Kimberly is survived by her husband, Mark and her three children: John Samuel, Madeline & Davis. Her Mom, Patricia Yates and siblings, Sam Yates, Kathryn and Paul Ballett, Holly and Chris Yates, Leslie and Matt McCracken, Caroline and Michael Yates, Cecily & Rick Burleson and many fond aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Kimberly's life will be celebrated Thursday, May 18th at 2:00 PM at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Rd, Houston, TX. Reception immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Kimberly Yates Burleson for ovarian cancer.

Three great memories of Kimberly: (1) Swimming with my Dad when Kimberly was a small child--my Dad was crazy about her; (2) Going to the Yates' ranch with big and little Sammy to hunt when we were about 10, and taking a swim with the "topless" Yates girls, Kathy and Kimberly; and (3) My wife's excitement when Kimberly and Annie Leonard pledged Chi Omega because they were from Laredo. Love the Yates and Burleson families and my heart hurts for our loss of sweet Kimberly.
