Gene Micoliczyk Obituary

Micoliczyk, Gene Arthur

Gene Arthur Micoliczyk, age 64, of San Diego, CA, died July 3, 2011 in San Diego.

Gene was born Jan. 22, 1947 to the late Lawrence and Josephine Micoliczyk, Sr. He graduated from Mishicot High School in 1965, where he lettered all four years in football, making all-conference both sides of the ball his senior year. He also lettered in wrestling as a heavy weight. After high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point before enlisting in the Navy. Gene served with pride for twenty years and was honorably discharged in San Diego on Sept. 30, 1986. Gene continued for another 20+ years as a civilian aircraft mechanic in San Diego. Gene enjoyed spending time with his wife helping her with her garden and cooking with her. He also enjoyed woodworking, caring for his double yellow-headed Amazon "Princess", and reading. Gene touched the lives of many people; he dearly loved his family

and friends and will be missed.

He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Lolita of San Diego; daughter, Emily; son-in-law, Michael; granddaughter, Sarah of Coeur d Alene, ID; and grandson, Jonathan of Eugene, OR. He is further survived by his sisters: Martha of Arizona; Florence Wondrash of Mishicot; and Alvina Robertson of Ashland; his brothers: Lawrence Jr. of Kewaunee, and Alvin of Green Bay. Preceding him in death are his parents, and his brothers: Nick, Louis, Martin and Leonard.

Funeral services were held in San Diego, CA.

I wrote earlier about Gene and my brother John being best buddies in 8th grade and high school. My apologies, but I forgot to sign my name. Julie Woodcock, Manitowoc WI

Gene and my brother John, were best buddies from 8th grade through high school. He was around our place a lot and was almost like another brother to me. There was much laugheter (and a little mischief too) when Gene was around. Gene and my brother spent hours tinkering on electronic projects of all kinds. I think one of their favorite activites was carp fishing with bow and arrows (which provided a lot of good fertilizer around the trees in our yard). Gene was a very fun-loving and kind man. Though I have not seen him since the 60's I am saddened by the loss of an old friend and "almost" brother. My sympathies to all his family.

Gene was my baby brother, and because of my age I wasn't able to attend the service. Just wanted everyone there in California and the rest of the world to know I loved my brother very much and will miss him. May God rest his soul and comfort all our hearts till we see him again.

I grew up wanting to be like him in many ways. I spent many hours with him when he was a teen and younger. My dad talked him into enlisting in the Navy. The last I talked to him was when my dad past in December. He told me he would see all of us in Wisconsin this fall. He was a good Uncle and a great American, he'll be missed.
