Sydow, Charles M.

Charles M. Sydow, age 70, a Whitelaw resident, died Tuesday morning, September 3, 2013, following a courageous six year battle with cancer, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, surrounded by his loving family.

Charles was born on November 10, 1942 in Manitowoc, son of the late Charles L. & Arlene (Herrmann) Sydow. He graduated from Mishicot High School, Class of 1960. Charles worked in the water conditioning service for 49 years. He was the past owner and operator of Charlie's "Diamond" Soft Water. He was presently employed with Culligan Water Conditioning Service, where he received numerous sales awards. Charles was a member of the Manitowoc County Reserve Deputy Sheriff Division for 35 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast and especially enjoyed watching the white tail deer that were on his property.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Charles A. & Dawn Sydow, Wasilla, AK; two daughters and sons-in-law: Lisa & Tracy Temme, Laurie & Mark Eberhardt, all of Manitowoc; nine grandchildren; special friends: Charlotte Baker, RaeLee & Mark Schreiber, Roni & Todd Meuller and Renee Boyd; and the mother of their children: Shirley Hoffmann. He is further survived by other relatives, many friends and his cat Putter.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at The All-Care Center, Manitowoc (directly across the street from The Pfeffer Funeral Home). Officiating at the Service will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen with burial at Branch Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The All-Care Center, Manitowoc (directly across the street from The Pfeffer Funeral Home), from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2013. Friends may also call Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

Charles wishes to express his gratitude to Dr. Benham, Dr. Saphner and Dr. Barylak for the excellent care and concern they extended to him as well as his family. He also wishes to express his heartfelt gratitude towards the staff at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center, Two Rivers, who are truly angels of mercy.

A special thank you to his caregivers: Carol Sheffer, Cindy Sheffer, Abbey Jones, the VNA Hospice Staff and Shady Lane Nursing Care Center Staff for their care of Charles during his last days.
