Leo W. Schumacher, age 92, of 4555 Harvest Circle, Manitowoc, entered eternal life late Saturday evening, September 6, 2014 at his residence.

Leo was born February 14, 1922 in Brillion, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late Leo and Margaret Schuh Schumacher. Leo received his education in the Brillion school system. He continued his education attending welding school in Marinette. On April 7, 1945 he married Betty J. Krueger at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Leo was a journeyman/setup man as a welder at the Manitowoc Company for 33 years. He served as secretary and treasurer for the Local Union 443 International Boilermakers and Fitters. Leo was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He also was a member and served as treasurer of the Manitowoc Campers Club and enjoyed many years of camping with his wife. He volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Society for 16 years where he fixed and repaired items that we donated to St. Vincent DePaul. Leo enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing sheepshead, reading and spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by four children: Carol (Bill) Rackley, Flagstaff, AZ; Jane (Jim) Hamann, Manitowoc, WI; Michael Schumacher, Lafayette, LO; Laurie (Tom) Berkedal, Appleton, WI; eleven grandchildren: Julie (John) Flor, Chetek, WI; Steve Waldvogel, Flagstaff, AZ; Mark (Anu) Hamann, Helsinki, Finland; Michael (Susan) Hamann, Fredericksburg, VA; Amy Hamann, Stevens Point, WI; Gina Hamann, Carlsbad, CA; Rose Schumacher, Washington, D.C.; Kerry Schumacher, San Diego, CA; Karin (Andy) Johnson, Des Moines, IO; Katie (Sam Servais) Berkedal, LaCrosse, WI; Jennifer Berkedal, Portland, OR; 13 great grandchildren, two brothers: Clarence Schumacher, Green Bay, WI; Charles (Mary Ann) Schumacher, Brillion, WI; one sister: Mary Kane Cohen, Brillion, WI; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: William and Margaret Schumacher; his wife: Betty; two brothers: Victor and Alfred Schumacher; one sister: Gertrude Miller; one great grandson.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Pleier. Cremation will follow at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with burial of the cremains at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the donor's choice.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
