Louise Curl Obituary

Louise G. Curl
June 24, 1935 - November 21, 2017
Louise (Munroe) Curl peacefully passed away in her sleep on November 21, 2017. Louise was born on June 24, 1935 to Blanche and Edgar Munroe in the farm home near Wayland, Michigan. Louise moved with her parents several times during her growing up years. She attended one room rural schools in Michigan and Wisconsin and high schools in Wisconsin and Illinois.
Louise entered Olivet Nazarene College in the fall of 1954. On August 6, 1955 she married Harrold Twain Curl in the College Chapel. Their first home was in Champaign, Illinois where Louise enrolled as a sophomore at the University of Illinois and Harrold continued his graduate studies in sociology. In 1958 the couple moved back to Olivet where their first child was born. Louise graduated from Olivet in 1959 and for the next two years taught third grade at Ashkum Elementary School.
The young family moved to Nampa, Idaho in 1961. Louise taught first grade at Kenwood Elementary School while her husband began his teaching career at NNC. During the next two years their second and third children were born. In 1965 the family moved to Eugene, Oregon. Louise taught second grade at River Road Elementary School while her husband was enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Oregon. The family moved back to Nampa in 1968. During the next ten years Louise held various positions in the Nampa Public Schools and received her MA in Education from Boise State College. She also certified in public school administration. In 1975 Louise was hired as the principal that opened the new Centennial Elementary School.
In 1978 both Louise and Harrold accepted teaching positions at Mt. Vernon Nazarene College, Mt. Vernon, Ohio. In 1980 MVNC hired Louise to serve as the new Director of Administrative Services. In 1983 Louise completed her Executive Master's in Business Administration degree at Baldwin Wallace College, Cleveland, Ohio.
Over the next 16 years Louise worked in her role as administrator of the college. Louise helped to facilitate the growing college by opening the first post office, reconstruct the bookstore and implement a campus wide telecommunication system. Louise then retired from MVNC in 1997.
Louise loved the wonderful family times and the beauty of God's creation while camping and hiking in the Idaho Mountains and the Oregon Coast when the children were growing up. Camping, hiking, biking and water skiing with family and friends were frequent, special and fun happenings while living in Ohio. Retirement years in Nampa, Idaho provided more time for travel with the 5th wheel along with special and precious times with family and grandkids. Serving the Lord and striving to be Christ-like enriched all aspects of her life.
Louise is survived in death by her children, David & Merry (Freelove) Curl of Wilder, ID, Colleen (Curl) Johnson & Jon Cannon of Zanesville, OH, Steven & Tara (Sickinger) Curl of Boise, ID; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister, Jackie (Munroe) & Jerry Ferree of Fayetteville, NC and brother, Dale & Carolyn Munroe of Bradenton, FL. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harrold Curl and her parents, Edgar and Blanche Munroe.
A Celebration of Life service is being held in her honor at 11:00 AM on December 14, 2017 at College Church of the Nazarene in Nampa.
