Jim Squibb Obituary

Jim Squibb, 77, of Nampa, passed away after a brief illness on Feb. 22, 2010. He was born on April 27, 1932, in Marsland, Neb., to Effie and Kermit Squibb, the youngest of five brothers. At the age of 8, he came with his family out west to Caldwell.
Jim met his little sweetheart Louise Lowe, at the age of 14, and on Nov. 4, 1947, they married on her 15th birthday. To this union was born a daughter Kathy (Doramus) and a son Jim.
Jim worked at different lumber companies, and also at Sioux Veneer Paneling in Boise. He retired after a few years from Homestyle Industries, so that he and his sweetie could travel.
If you knew him, then you probably had heard his music. He was known for his "good old foot stompin country music". Jim bought his first guitar at the age of twenty and from then on it was a huge part of his life. Even though he was self-taught, you would never had known it by the way he performed around the valley. He knew literally hundreds of songs by heart, and wrote at least a hundred of his own. He had a great voice and was inspired by Hank Williams, and George Jones.
Dad's career actually began at the age of six when he stood on the street corner in Crawford, Neb., and sang his heart out for 12 cents!
Even though music was a huge part of his life, his main love was that little sweetheart of his who has stood by his side for 62 years.
Jim and Louise made many friends over the years traveling with their RV, and through dad's music. His music took them to Oregon, Nevada, Missouri, and Canada. He was also a member of the Gem State Fiddlers. His band, Country Time, has livened up the hearts of senior centers and retirement homes all across the valley.
Jim had quite a sense of humor, and was always the life of the party. He was the kindest, most loyal dad in the world. He always had a soft spot for kids and he never met a dog that didn't love him.
He had beautiful blue eyes, a big smile, and a laugh you couldn't help noticing.
Jim is survived by his wife and best friend, Louise; a daughter Kathy (Tony) Doramus, and a son Jim (Theresa) all of Nampa; nine grandkids,18 great-grandchildren, and a brother Dean Squibb of Star.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Roger; brothers Curly Mather, Melvin Mather and Quentin Squibb; a granddaughter Amy Jo Doramus; and great-granddaughter Shelby Liszak.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell.
Services will be held Monday, March 1, at 2 p.m., at The Church of the Brethren. Interment will follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell.
Condolences may be submitted online at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com. Memorials may be given to Caldwell Senior Center or Meals on Wheels, c/o Flahiff Funeral Chapel, PO Box 726, Caldwell, ID 83606-0726.
"Dad what will we do without you? You were our shining star on stage, and now I imagine that you are on the grandest stage of all, playing for Hank Williams and Ernest Tubb.
"Till we meet again Dad, rest in peace."
