Maurice Pike
GLENCOE, Minn. - Maurice (Anderson) Pike, age 96, of Glencoe, Minn., formerly of Pocatello, Idaho, died Friday, November 2, 2012, at her home in Glencoe, Minn.
Maurice Pike was born on May 13, 1916, in Brigham City, Utah. She was the daughter of Leslie and Theo (Stocking) Anderson. In 1928, the family moved to Pocatello, Idaho, and in 1932, the family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1933, the family moved east to Omaha, Neb. Maurice graduated from Omaha High School in 1934.
It was during this time she met and fell in love with neighbor, Charles Harlan Pike. The two eloped and were married in Atlantic, Iowa, on June 14, 1934. Their marriage was blessed with three children.
She and Charlie lived in Omaha until 1937, when they moved to Pocatello, Idaho. Maurice was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Episcopal Church in Pocatello in 1947. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Arco, Idaho, (Naval Proving Grounds), where Charlie was an employed as civilian fire chief of the base. In 1949, NPG closed and the family moved to Blackfoot, Idaho, and from 1951-'55, the family lived in Chubbuck, Tyhee, and Pocatello, Idaho.
They moved to Billings, Mont., in 1955, and from 1956-1982, Maurice worked for U.S. Postal Substation at Fran's TV/Appliance, bookkeeper at North Side Locker and as administrative aide at Investments Diversified Services (IDS) in Billings. She retired from IDS in 1982, volunteered for St. Vincent Hospital and Low Vision Clinic in Billings, also Community Hospital in Missoula, Mont. In 2002, she lived at the Village in Missoula until 2011, moved to Glencoe, Minn.
Maurice was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Daughters of the Nile and Moss Agate Chapter No. 126, Order of the Eastern Star. She and Charlie were founding members of the Billings Banjo Band performing at music festivals in the Pacific Northwest until the late 1990s. Maurice played her home-made gut bucket while Charlie played the four-string banjo with the band.
While living in Missoula she was a member Holy Spirit Episcopal Church. She was an avid golfer at Lake Hills Golf Club in Billings. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
Maurice is survived by her children, Blaine H. Pike of Hagerman, Idaho, Terri (Evan) Denney of Glencoe, Minn., Scott (Joene) Pike of Portland, Ore.; 10 grandchildren, Cheri Skewes of Salt Lake City, Utah, Blaine (Sharon) Pike of Meridian, Idaho, Cindy (Isaac) Rivera of Ventura, Calif., Patrick (Wendy) Pike of Riverton, Utah, Krista (Dr. Bryan) Peterson of Glencoe, Minn., Lt. Col. Jason (Sarah) Denney of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., Jenna (Jorge Rojas) Pike of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jay Pike of Chicago, Ill., James Pike of Chicago, Ill., Charles H. Pike of Marsing, Idaho; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Madge Anderson of Boise, Idaho; nephews and niece, James Wentz, Charles Wentz, Eric Anderson, J. B. Anderson, Dirk Anderson, Leslie Dobson; special friends, Joy Ashton Downs of Salt Lake City, Utah, Nancy Singleton of Missoula, Mont., and Katharine Meininger of Marsing, Idaho. Maurice is preceded in death by husband, Charles Harlan Pike, parents, Leslie and Theo Anderson, brother, J. Blaine Anderson, and sister, Afton Anderson.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Connect Care Hospice, the many nurses, aides and volunteers making Maurice's last weeks comfortable.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial celebrating her life will be held in Montana or Idaho in summer of 2013. The family suggests donations to Connect Care Hospice in Hutchinson, Minn., or to an organization of the donor's choice.
