What a loss. But, how much the world gained because of his life.

Words fail me in trying to express the intangible connections of friendship. There have been only a few more important people in my life than the D-Bear, even across the lost miles and time. The world was a better place with Dennis Donnelly in it.

I am grateful to have known Dennis and always felt welcome in his home as part of the family. Those were special times for me to be able share Christmas' with the family on several occasions over the years.

I met Dennis when he came to work in Anaheim, CA in the mid 1960's. We were both engineers designing inertial navigation systems for Autonetics. We shared a large, old ranch house with several other guys who all worked at the same place.
His dedication to world peace became evident in the run up to the 1968 Democratic National Convention when he decided to stage a rally for the peace candidate Eugene McCarthy at our house. He managed to get McCarthy's daughter to come and speak. We all helped by distributing circulars ...and cleaning up the house. Imagine a bunch of defense industry engineers doing this! In the end his dedication to this cause wound up influencing us all.
In July 1969, Dennis planned a trip to watch the lift off of Apollo 11 to take the first men to the moon. We drove his old VW van across the United States and watched the lift off of the mighty Saturn 5 which took Neil Armstrong to the moon.
Soon after, Dennis left the defense industry to pursue what was really in his heart, as is so beautifully described in his obituary. We remained friends right up to our last exchange of e-mails about 2 months ago. I will miss his intellect and I will miss hearing his views on important matters.
