Raymond Briggs Obituary

Raymond Kay Briggs
October 10, 1930 - December 9, 2015
Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Raymond Kay Briggs, returned home to our Heavenly Father on December 09, 2015.
Born October 10, 1930, in Rexburg, Idaho, the second of five children, to Raymond and Leah Briggs, Kay was raised on the family farm in Archer and graduated from Madison High School and Ricks College.
He served an LDS mission to Western Canada where he met his eternal sweetheart, Georgia Atwood. They were married on December 30, 1952. Seven children blessed their home.
Soon after his marriage, he was drafted into the Army and assigned to the 62nd Signal Battalion at Fort Lewis, WA. Upon his release, he began his 30-year career in the grain business in Rexburg and later in American Falls. He also co-owned a school bus operation in American Falls. When health issues forced his retirement, he and his wife operated Cottonwood Cove, a retirement community, for 12 years.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he faithfully served in many positions including American Falls Stake President and, for the past 32 years, as a Stake Patriarch. Kay and Georgia also enjoyed serving a mission in Nauvoo, Illinois.
Throughout his life, Kay served the community in many capacities including Rotary Club and Boy Scouts. He loved scouting, earning the ranks of Eagle and Silver Beaver, and serving on the Grand Teton Council.
Kay is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Doralie and Lola, one brother, Lyle, and a son-in-law, Chris Kunz.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years (Georgia), his seven children, Debbie Kunz, Ronna (Jim) Grosscurth, Pam (Mike) Sanders, Leanne (Kim) Drew, Kevin (Cammie) Briggs, Robyn (Larry) Reaves, Leisa (Darin) Graham, 39 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren, and his brother, Garth Briggs.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 18th, at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 6-8 p.m. The funeral will follow on Saturday, December 19th, at the L.D.S. Satterfield Stake Center at 11 a.m. with a viewing before the service at 9:30 a.m. His burial will be in Archer, Idaho.
