Both Louis and his brother, Jim, were my teachers at Kuna High School, although we knew them each as Mr. Barayassarra. Louis kept perfect order in Geometry class, with nothing more than an upraised eyebrow aimed at the student who was considering distracting the class. He was a great teacher. Geometry was probably the only math class I ever enjoyed. My condolences to the family.

Lou, I didn't know you as well as many others in your family, but I will certainly miss you anyway. I always loved you and me challenging each other to our trivia battles, even if no one else understood. Your brother asking us, "Who spit between pitches in the third inning of the fifth game of the 1924 World Series when they didn't play the Star Spangled Banner?" He just didn't appreciate our competition.
I honestly have very mixed feelings about you passing on my birthday. On one hand, maybe it was meant to be because of the connection that you and I had. On the other hand, that day will always be bittersweet. I will miss you.
It comforts me to know that you are now in God's glory. Rest well sir.

How many of us can say with certainty that they know their loved one is now in God's presence. I have no doubt where Lou is now. Lou grew up truly understanding the heartbreak of poverty. Whereas some people become bitter from hardships, he learned from it and spent his life helping other people. First, he devoted his life to his mother and then to his beloved niece, more like daughter Vicki. How many times would he give what little money he had to family or friends just to make their lives a little brighter? How many times would he go without so others wouldn't have to? He understood the true value of an education and would often push others to use this path to better their own lives. The week before he died I had a dream that an angel had been visiting him every night to provide him solace. I asked her if she knew just how giving he was and I wanted assurance that he would be taken to heaven. She assured me she knew how good he was and that his future would be with the Lord. Lou, I'm happy for you because I know that your struggles are over. My saddness is for the rest of us because the world will never know just what a treasure it lost. Good-Bye until we meet again.

It has been 45 years since I took Mr. Barayasarra's "Math Analysis" class at Capital High School but I still recall his enthusiasm for, and ability to teach a difficult subject. He was a terrific teacher and I send my condolences to his family for their loss.

Uncle Lou, You truly will be missed. I have the fondest memories of our summer trips to Idaho. I still laugh about the time that you and dad wallpapered the living room only to find it on the floor the next morning. And the stories my dad would tell of you growing up. How you hid under his bed and when he went to climb in you grabbed his ankle, then while he was screaming, you slipped out the window. He thought the boogie man lived under his bed and had to take a running start into bed for years thereafter.
It meant so much to me when you told me "I was a good mother" when you met Quinn for the first time. Remember when Quinn threw the band-aids into the hospital room to make his Aitxitxe all better. I know you found finally your band-aid. God Bless You for being in our lives for as long as we had you. With Love. Lisa

My deepest sympathy to Frank and the rest of the Barayasarra family during this time of loss. I will never forget how Lou tutored me in math when I was having a very difficult time in high school with Algebra. If it hadn't been for him, I never would have made it! I will always be grateful to him for his kindness and the time he spent working with me. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
Most sincerely,
Marilyn (Scrivner) Gerhard
