Vincent Strobel Obituary

Vincent Stewart Strobel 1930 - 2011 On August 7, 1930, Vince was born to Vincent and Betsy Strobel. He was raised in the Hayward area with his brothers Bill and Steve. After graduating from Hayward Union High school in 1949, he went to San Mateo Jr. College then transferred to the University of Idaho where he earned a degree in Forestry. Here he met his life-long love, Rita. They were married on September 6, 1954. In 1955, they moved to Boise, ID where Vince worked for the Bureau of Land Management until his retirement in 1985. Afterwards, they moved to the Portland area where he was employed as a land law examiner and environmental inspector for Coates Field Services, Kern River Gas Transmission and Land Services. For six years they volunteered as Crime Victim Advocates for the Washington County District Attorney's Office. Vince enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and reading. His deepest love was for his wife Rita, his eight sons and their wives: Craig, Jeff (Kathryn), Todd, Brett (Melinda), Nick (Lisa), Kurt (Amy), Burke (Katie) and Nathan (Tisa) and 18 grandchildren. His legacy of unswerving integrity, inborn compassion and indomitable humor will live on in his children and grandchildren. Vincent died suddenly on April 24, 2011. A celebration service will be held on May 15th at 4:30 pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 12755 NW Dogwood St., Portland. To Vince's family: I worked with Vince in the 1960's. He was very knowledgeable and was willing to share his knowledge. His sense of humor was wonderful. I know you will miss him forever. My condolences go out to all of you.

I too worked with Vince and I most certainly echo Pam's words. I respect and admire Vince to this day. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Rita and family, I was so saddened to hear of Vince's passing. What a great guy he was! I had the privilege of working with him at the BLM. He was known as the authority on lands issues. I was a Land Law Examiner in a district office, when we needed advice or the correct answer we called Vince. Not only was he the best lands man, he was so caring and always threw in some comment to make us laugh. I'm sure none of this is news to you but when he retired he left a very empty spot. I truly admired him, he was one in a million!
