Eleanor Lombardi Obituary

Eleanor M. Lombardi
MAY 21, 1924 - NOVEMBER 18, 2011
ANDERSON, SC - Mrs. Eleanor "Ele" M. Lombardi, age 87, wife of sixty-eight years to Frank J. Lombardi, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2011, at the AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born May 21, 1924, in Hartford, CT, she was a daughter of immigrants John and Rose Matulis. In April of 1947, she and Frank moved to Anderson, SC, where they founded Frank Distributing Company and until her retirement she served as Vice President and Secretary. In earlier years, Mrs. Lombardi was active in a variety of community organizations and civic clubs but her life was comprised mostly of her dear family and church, St. Joseph Catholic Church -- where she served in various capacities throughout her years.
Her beloved family survives: husband, Frank J. Lombardi; children: Kathy O'Connor and husband, Tom O'Connor, John F. Lombardi, Marcia Pearson and husband, Joel Pearson, Francis J. Lombardi Jr. and wife, Cheryl Lombardi, and Joyce Cox and husband, Gerald Cox, all of Anderson, SC; grandchildren: Shannon Rippy and husband, Brent Rippy, John F. Lombardi Jr., Tracy Maness and husband, Anthony Maness, Stephanie Moran and husband, Bobby Moran, Matthew Pearson and fiancée, Liz Magaha, and Danielle Lombardi; one great grandchild, Christopher Maness; and a special sister-in-law, Ora Lombardi; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and a longtime dear family friend, The Reverend Paul Seitz. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her only sibling, Bernice Matulis Cherwinski; a niece, Beverley Riccio; and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Marie Lombardi.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 4pm on Monday, November 21, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family respectfully requests that there be no home visitation as family members will be at their respective homes. However, the Lombardi family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 2:30 pm until 3:30 pm on Monday, prior to the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to the Building Fund of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1200 Cornelia Road, Anderson, SC 29621, or to the charity of one's choice.

To the Lombardi family,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Eleanor. I remember my parents, Joe and Val Vytell spending many happy times with Eleanor and Frank on their visits back and forth to Delray Beach, Florida. I am sorry that I did not have a chance to speak with her before her passing. Healing thoughts to all. Best, Diana Vytell
