Bill H. LeCroy
CARNESVILLE, GA - Bill H. LeCroy, 83, of Carnesville, passed away Wednesday, December 08, 2010, at the Athens Regional Medial Center in Athens, Georgia.
Born December 12, 1926, he was the son of the late Roscoe H. and Mable Stephenson LeCroy. He was the brother of the late Roscoe H. LeCroy, Jewell LeCroy, Ruth Pabst, and Nell Addison. He was a 1944 graduate of Carnesville High School and a 1950 graduate of Piedmont College. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1944 until 1947. A corporal with the 88th Blue Devil Division, he served as a radio operator, stationed in Italy. He and Betty Payne were married December 23, 1951. He was a teacher at the Eagle Grove Elementary and Hartwell High School, and was principal at Bowersville Elementary. He retired from teaching in 1960. That same year, he became the 2nd agent ever hired by Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance Company. He served as agent and agency manager for 37 ½ years at Franklin County until his retirement in 1997. He had been a cattle farmer for the past 13 years. He was a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church and had served as a Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Payne LeCroy, one son, Michael LeCroy, Hartwell, GA, daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Edward Schemel, Signal Mountain, TN; grandsons, Christopher LeCroy, Chattanooga, TN, and Adam LeCroy, Fort Collins, CO, and two granddaughters, Alayna LeCroy, Athens, GA, and Lee Schemel, Signal Mountain, TN; one brother, Steve LeCroy, Snellville, GA, and three sisters, Sue Spears, Louise Crawford, and Jean Bailey, all of Toccoa, GA.
Services will be Monday afternoon at 2pm at the Cross Roads Baptist Church with Rev. Grady Jordan and Rev. Bobby Jones officiating.
Pallbearers will be Christopher LeCroy, Adam LeCroy, Stephen LeCroy, Joe Dan LeCroy, Tony LeCroy, and Stewart Bailey. Internment will be in the church cemetery.
The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville. The family is at the residence. They will receive friends Saturday evening from 5pm until 7pm and Sunday afternoon from 2pm until 5pm.
