Joyce M. Laetsch
82, beloved wife and mother, passed away Monday, August 27, 2012. She was born Sept. 13, 1929 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Paul and Gertrude Ticen. Joyce was a lifelong southsider and was proud to be an active member of the Garfield Park community.
She was a 1947 graduate of Thomas Carr Howe High School. After graduation, Joyce was employed at Eli Lilly and attended night classes at IU Extension. On November 11, 1951 she married W. Bruce Laetsch. Together they were happily married for 60 years. Her husband survives along with their four children; Linda (Dale) Petrie of Crawfordsville, Donna (KC) Thomsen of Greenwood, Charles (Mary) Laetsch of Ft. Lauderdale, and James (Susan) Laetsch of New Palestine. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and a newborn great-grandson. Joyce was a homemaker for many years while raising her young family.
When she returned to work, her career as a legal secretary would last for more than 30 years. Midlife, Joyce became an avid tennis player and this passion continued unabated until illness forced her to the sidelines a few months ago. Additionally, Joyce had a great love of music and especially enjoyed singing in her church choirs. Joyce was a faithful member of North United Methodist Church and was richly involved in women's ministry programs and community outreach projects. It was in her heart to be of service to others. Evident to all was her devotion to her family. We were deeply blessed to have had her love and guidance throughout our lives.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30 in Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center , 7602 Madison Ave, Indianapolis.
