Albert Ajamie Obituary
Rev. Albert Ajamie, MA, STL 86, Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2010 in St. Augustine Home for the Aged. He was a priest of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis for almost 60 years, ordained on May 30, 1950. Fr. Ajamie was associate pastor at St. Andrew, St. Mary's in North Vernon and Holy Trinity in Indianapolis. He served as pastor at Holy Angels, St. Rose of Lima, St. Monica, St. Mary's in Lanesville and St. Thomas the Apostle in Fortville. He was an instructor at Marian College and active in Cursillo and Christ Renews His Parish. Fr. Ajamie served as a spiritual counselor at Fatima Retreat House. He was a priest in residence for the Little Sisters of the Poor at St. Augustine's Home for the Aged where he resided in retirement the last several years. He graduated from St. Meinrad Seminary and obtained a graduate degree from the Theological College of Catholic University. Fr. Ajamie is survived by his sister, Lorraine Ajamie; nieces, Mary Kay Daly, Terri Cordell and Jackie Treacy; cousins, Lucille Ajamie, Marie Ajamie and Sam Ajamie; numerous cousins and great nieces and nephews. Friends and family will gather for the Reception of the Body at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, January 14th in the chapel at St. Augustine Home for the Aged, 2345 W. 86th St. followed by visitation until the Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be held Friday, January 15th from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 N. Michigan Road. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with Archbishop Daniel Buechlein as the main celebrant. Interment will follow in the Priest's Circle at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Fr. Ajamie's memory be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor at St. Augustine Home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Oakley-Hammond Funeral Home, Moore and Kirk Irvington Chapel.
