Katharine Grey
93, Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013. Katharine was born on October 17, 1919 in Green Bay, WI, to the late Raymond Charles and Floi Elizabeth (Bennett) Tyler. She graduated from Milwaukee Downer Seminary, attended Lawrence University, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point with a BS Degree in English and Library Science. During the 1960's, while living in the Washington, DC area, she served on two Presidential Inaugural Ball Committees and the Sorority Advisory Board at George Washington University. She was a member of the Falls Church Women's Club, worked at the Fairfax County Public Library and chaired the Fairfax Hospital Follies and the Pink Lady Ball.
Katharine moved to Indianapolis from Washington, DC in 1980 with her husband Carl M. Grey. She became active in St. Luke's United Methodist Church, serving as librarian for five years, and as a volunteer in the St. Vincent Hospital Medical Library. She was also a member of The Alliance of the Museum of Art, The Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter of the DAR, the PEO Sisterhood, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, The Scottish Society of Indianapolis, Sigma Tau Delta National Honorary English Fraternity, the Psi Beta Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta Honorary Literary Fraternity, and the Indianapolis Contemporary Club. Katharine also had a love for cats.
In December 2003, she moved to Marquette Manor where she continued her volunteer services in the library. In 2012, she moved to Brookdale Assisted Living at Willow Lake.
Katharine is survived by her daughter Meredith Eastwood; grandson Kent Thomas Eastwood (Brandi Russell); and two great-grandsons: Colton and Rowan.
Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, is honored to assist the family. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Crown Hill Cemetery.
