When fires broke out in Texas a few autumns back, and our neighborhood was evacuated, the short email "You okay?" was from John. I can think of no other friend from a half century ago whose caring heart proved as steadfast. Even those of us who knew John from long-past school days in Houston feel the loss of his vibrant presence. Our sympathy goes out to his daughters & to everyone else he loved.

John was a good friend of mine. He was like a brother to me during the time I knew him. He helped me through a very difficult situation and I will always be grateful to him. What I will remember most about him is his infectious laugh, his willingness to help, and our great conversations. He loved his beautiful daughters like the son and was always proud of them. Susana and Emily, you are in my heart and my thoughts every day. Rest in peace friend.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Your Dad could light up a room and he is going to really be missed. Please be gentle with yourselves.
