Paul R. Chapman
76, of Carmel, passed away at Saint Vincent Hospice on December 19, after spending his last days surrounded by the abiding love of his family and friends. Paul was born in Welch, West Virginia, on October 30, 1937, to Lola (Walker) and James Chapman. He graduated from the University of West Virginia with a degree in accounting.
Paul served in the US Army Artillery Division at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and in Korea. Then he served for several years in the local reserves, attained the rank of Captain, and volunteered for the Red Cross as a HAM Radio operator. After earning his CPA, Paul was the Vice President of Finance at Anacomp, Controller at Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership, and accountant at Saint Pius X Church.
Paul's hobbies included astronomy, magic, and flying. He enjoyed many years as a recreational pilot, often flying to visit family and sometimes for the pure pleasure of flight. Travelling with his wife, he loved to explore new places, especially national parks. As a history buff, Paul had a special interest in the Civil War.
Nothing pleased Paul more than spending time with his loving family, which he led by example with gentleness, integrity, devotion, and humor. He is survived by his wife Kathy; daughters, Paula (Greg) Troutt, Deborah (Bernie) Smith, and Anne Chapman; granddaughter, Megan Troutt, and stepchildren, Ben (Wendy) Couture and Amanda Couture.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 26, from 4-7 p.m. in Leppert Mortuary - Nora . The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, December 27, in St. Pius X Catholic Church, where friends will gather from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Kathy! Mike and I are heartbroken and are so very sorry for your loss. Both of us have been battling a virus. I have had no voice. We had intended to call you but that becomes a challenge when laryngitis takes hold. We are SO honored that Paul made sure we were on a list to be contacted. Corine Ihrie called me VERY shortly after she spoke with you and then we received a lovely voice mail from Anne. We'd like to get together with you in a week or two if you're up to it to visit and catch up. What a wonderful man. He will be deeply missed by us and by so many!!

Anne - Thank you for you kind and detailed voice mail. I was in route home with family from Chicago when you tried to call and my phone had died. I woke the next day with NO voice. It has only begun to return today - making a return phone call impossible. I plan to be at the funeral tomorrow.

Kathy & Anne,
My condolences to both of you in the loss of your loved one. I'm sure he is in a lovely place waiting to see you both in the future.
Paul was one of my best bosses and I always enjoyed my time with him. It just needed to be more once he retired. I will surely miss him and his love for magic and flying. I will never forget the first flight I accompanied him when he turned off the engine. I certainly was feeling pretty uncomfortable until he explained how a single engine plane can glide. He's probably laughing at me now that he can soar without a plane.
God Bless,
Joe
