Louis Wohlgemuth Obituary

A longtime resident of Union City, California 1918 - 2009 Died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, January 5, 2009 following a series of strokes in October 2008. Born on December 23, 1918, in Saskatchewan, Canada, into a family of twelve brothers and sisters, he lived the early part of his life in a midwestern farming community. As a teenager, he immigrated to the United States with his family and settled in Southern California. During his younger years, Louis learned a number of trades including metal fabrication, welding, and automobile mechanics. Shortly after the outbreak of World War II, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served for three years. After the war, he met his future wife "Irene" and they were married on December 31, 1948. They settled in the small town of Temple City, California, a suburb of Los Angeles, where they raised four children. Louis worked in the steel fabrication and construction industry as a welder. After 22 years Louis moved his family to Union City, California where he continued his trade as an Ironworker until his retirement in 1988. In his spare time Louis enjoyed playing his harmonica, riding his bicycle, visiting with his neighbors, gardening, and working on his cars. He regularly attended church and was an active member of the Union City Senior Citizens Organization. Louis was predeceased by his wife of 48 years and is survived by his son Paul Wohlgemuth and wife Cheryl, his daughter, Karla Streng and husband Brian, his daughter Sandy Rouse and husband Alan, his son Scott Wohlgemuth and life partner Tim Howe, nine grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bay Hills Community Church, 25850 Gading Road, Hayward, California 94544. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the Bay Hills Community Church, Hayward, California
