Shirley Coffing Obituary

Shirley M. Coffing Mar. 7, 1925 - Feb. 9, 2011 Resident of Fremont Born March 7, 1925 in Oakland, CA. Surrounded by her family, she passed away on February 9, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer. Shirley was the devoted wife of David Coffing, and was loving mother to Clark Coffing (Sarah) and Holley Nordvik (Robert). She was grandmother to Tyler, Zachariah, Matthew, Faith, Colin, William and Evan. Shirley was a grade school teacher in Manteca, Oakland and San Francisco. She retired from teaching to become a mother. Shirley loved sewing, quilting, gardening and cooking. She was a member of the DAR, and loved to row with the Oakland Women's Rowing Club (OWRC). She spent many days listening to her husband's big band play on the USS Hornet and around the Bay Area. A Celebration of Life will be held for Shirley, on Sunday, February 27th, 11am, at Merrill Gardens, 2860 Country Drive in Fremont. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
