Earl W. Kinney July 15, 1919 - June 26, 2010 Resident of Piedmont Earl W. Kinney, 90, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2010. Mr. Kinney was born in Utica, New York on July 15th, 1919 and was one of six brothers After Manhattan College, he served in the Marines Corps during World War II. Earl moved to California in 1951 and formed a wholesale wallcovering distribution company: Kinney Wallcoverings. As President of Kinney Wallcoverings he became recognized as the "dean" of exported American Wallcoverings and received the Allman award for outstanding service in the Wallcovering Industry. Earl continued to act as an International sales consultant internationally up to the present time. Mr. Kinney enjoyed golfing for past 50 years and was a longtime member of Claremont Country Club and Carmel Valley Ranch Club. Mr. Kinney is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marilyn and their three children, Debbie, Neil and Cheryl and four grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Edward and Charles who were partners with him for 36 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Oakland Zoo, 9777 Golf Links Road, Oakland, CA 94605 or the charity of your choice. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday July 15, 2010 at 11:00AM at St Theresa Church, 30 Mandalay Road, Oakland, CA 94618.

Earl was my mentor and friend, I will miss him. My father always considered Earl a friend and a true gentleman. My thoughts and prayers to the Kinney family.

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Kinney. I'm Mr. Kinney's Insurance Agent. Such a nice man. May God be with his wife Marilyn and family in this time.

My mom, Marge Pieper was employed by Kinney Wallcoverings in Oakland during the late 70's-80's. She always spoke highly of the Kinney family and was greatful for the few years she worked for them. She is now in a nursing home in Alameda and I know if she were able to express her sadness and offer her prayers for all the Kinneys' she would. You have my sincere sympathy at this time. The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me".
