I went to work for Russ in 1969 in the landmark store ,Oakland. I moved to the plant and stayed working for the best man and boss i have ever had for 25 years. We have stayed intouch since i left Loard's in 1993. I consider Russ the best freind i have ever had.
He will be and is missed greatly. Fran will be missed also by many.

Russ was my mentor and friend for over 35 years. Working at Loard's provided me with a foundation that has carried me through life. Russ taught me a few very important lessons about life and people. Visiting with him at home the last few years has been very special. I really miss him.

Thank you, Mr. Salyards, for being the best example of a boss that I ever had. You always had your employees best interest at heart. Bless you!

I worked for Mr. Salyards at Loard's in Orinda when I was a senior at Miramonte - 1970-1971. It was my first real job and Mr. Salyards was a delight to work for. 40 years later he is still the best boss I ever had. He cared about us kids and respected us. He inspired us to work hard and be happy. He was always fair and kind. What a gift he was to me personally and to everyone who knew him. Marian (Knowles) McNicol

July 14, will never be the same or happy day for me as long as I live, because a great man has been departed. His charisma has very positive impact toward a lot of people. His great wisdom will forever cherish in my heart. You will always be in my heart and prayers, Poppa. Thank you for being there for me.

May you rest in peace Russ. I'm so grateful that our paths crossed, as brief as it may have been. You're a very special gentleman!

I knew Mr. Salyards since 1966 when he came to his attorney's office where I worked with Bill Walters. I worked there until Bill passed away in 2007 and had many years of association with Mr. Salyards who always brought me his famous raspberry creme chocolates. He never forgot. Rest in Peace.
