Ruby Smith Obituary

Ruby Cox Smith, a longtime educator in the Ontario Montclair School District passed away on 22 October 2008 at the age of 93. Mrs. Smith moved to Ontario in 1952 with her husband, Charles F. Smith and five children. She served as the Program Chairman of Lincoln School PTA in 1953 and later became President of the Lincoln School Parent Teacher's Association. Mrs. Smith obtained her education at Brigham Young University and taught elementary grades several years before her marriage. Later, when her younge st son was in Junior High School, she updated her teaching credentials at BYU and taught in the Ontario-Montclair School District in various grades. She also became the Program Facilitator working with parents, teachers and principals in planning programs to fulfill children's special needs. She always loved working with all those involved, especially the children. Ruby Smith is survived by three sons: Robert F. Smith of San Pedro; Larry Smith, La Verne; Stephen Smith, Boise, Idaho; and two daughters, Lin da Menes, Upland and Madeline Manwaring, Warrenton, Virginia. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He husband, Charles Foster Smith, predeceased her. Mrs. Smith was an active member of the Upland Fifth Ward of the Upland Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She taught in church auxiliaries, seminary and worked tirelessly on Family History projects. She was a past president of the local chapter of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, of which she was a founding member. Ruby was born in Fairview, Utah on December 26, 1914, the youngest child of a family of four children. Her three older siblings predeceased her. She retired from teaching in June 1985 and was living in the home of her daughter, Linda Menes, in Upland at the time of her death. A memorial service for Mrs. Smith will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday, November 1 at 12:30 p.m., 785 N. San Antonio Ave., Upland, CA. Burial will be in the upper cem etery in Fairview, Utah at Noon on Saturday, 8 November 2008.

Ruby was a very nice person. I was her Visiting Teacher at one time. I always enjoyed talking to her. We lived in Ontario for 28 years but have been gone since 1991. Our thoughts & prayers are with the family at this time.
