ALFRED "FRED"
STEVEN KUHN
Jan. 20, 1953 - Sept. 27, 2012
Alfred ("Fred") Steven Kuhn, age 59, of La Mesa, California, went to be with our Lord on September 27, 2012 in the privacy of his home surrounded by his wife, family and friends. He had a courageous five-year battle with cancer.
Fred was born in Brawley, California on January 20, 1953 into a Valley-pioneering family going back to 1916. His father is the late Walter Kuhn Sr., who as a land leveling contractor, helped develop Imperial Valley into one of the premier agricultural areas in the country. His mother is Wanda (Hickey) Kuhn, whose father helped build the All-American Canal in the early 1930s. Fred was the third of six children. He attended elementary school in Brawley, CA and graduated from Central Union High School in El Centro, CA in 1971. In his youth, Fred was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, both as a mechanic and accomplished off road motorcycle racer. His interest in the field of mechanics, combined with his knowledge of machines, contributed to his becoming an expert diesel and heavy equipment mechanic.
Fred is survived by his mother, Wanda Jean (Hickey) Kuhn; wife, Pam; daughter, Chelsea Kuhn; son, Landon Kuhn, Landon's wife Julie, and grandchildren Kyle, Carson, and Claire; former wife, Karen Jones; brothers, Walter Kuhn, Jr., and Bruce Kuhn; sisters, Jeanine Neighbors, Merry Haynes, and Trudy Preuss; and numerous other uncles, aunts and cousins living both in Imperial Valley and elsewhere.
A memorial service is planned for later in the year.

My condolences to the entire "Kuhn Family". Fred was a good person who would do anything for you.
I have known Fred for 42 years and have many good memories of times we spent together, riding bikes in the Desert, going to San Diego, and to Mexico. Fred and I also liked to talk about the time "we all" spent working together in Saudi Arabia.
I will miss you, and treasure always your friendship and the goodtimes.
Sincerly,
Your Friend,

Bruce:
May the strength and support of your faithful family and friends give you the courage to deal with this loss. We cannot justify death, but we are forced to accept it—painful as it is. Fred left a legacy that will not be surpassed; and as long as he is remembered, he will remain with us.
Respectfully,

We remember Fred back in the day when he worked at Bob Hill's Honda Shop, we worked at Jim Brown's Kawasaki shop next door. I think he was the only real mechanic they had at the time.... We have great memories of Fred and I testing motorcycles and having fun on the bikes in the alley between the shops..... Fred was a accomplished racer and even better mechanic..... Godspeed Fred, you are a true local legend that we will always remember....
