LEO ROBERT HIGNIGHT
1928 - 2008
Leo Hignight, 80, formerly of El Centro passed away July 2, 2008 at the Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada of natural causes with his daughter, Mary Webber and granddaughter, Jennifer Martinez by his side.
He was born April 15, 1928 in Granite, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1948. He married Erma Lee Collum on April 21, 1948. He worked in construction and managed a skating rink, where he taught ice and roller skating in Davis, Oklahoma until he moved to Calexico, California in 1955. Upon arriving in Calexico, he met Bill Jacobs, who offered him a job on his farm. He enjoyed farming and continued to farm until his retirement in 1993.
He was an active member of the Moose Lodge for many years and a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Erma in 2002; his parents, John Robert and Minnie Mae; his brother, Bobby George; his sisters, Lois, Judy, Freddie and Mary Pearl; son-in-law, Bruce MacDonald; grandchildren, Shannon and Shawna Hunt and great-grandson, Michael Gushlaw.
Leo is survived by his children, Bobbie MacDonald, Mary (Grover) Webber, Sharon Hignight, Robert Hignight and John Wesley (Lety) Hignight; grandchildren, Michael (Dena) Webber, Cassie (Michael) Gushlaw, Carie Hignight, Jennifer (Joe) Martinez, Victoria Rodriguez, Grover (Elizabeth) Webber, Robert (Miriam) Hignight, David and Veronica Hignight; great-grandchildren, Cory and Cole Gushlaw, Ashley, Sabrina, Heather and Orion Martinez, Luis and Christopher Ruiz, Mia and Arianna Ayon, Azariah Sampson, Leo Robert and Orlando Hignight and Jacob Webber; brothers, John (Shirley) and Deroy (Faye) Hignight and numerous nieces and nephews.
