Donna Brown Obituary

Donna J. Brown

Dayton - Dona J. (Light) Brown, 84, of Dayton, IN, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at the I.U. Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, IN.

Born November 30, 1933 in Fort Wayne, IN, she was the daughter of the late Carl W. and Vella M. (Golden) Light. Dona married her sailor man, Max E. Brown, on September 28, 1952. They were married for nearly 60 years when he passed away on May 31, 2012.

Dona was a woman of boundless energy with a strong work ethic. She worked as an accounting clerk for Fairfield Manufacturing, Peerless Wire, Home Hospital, and General Foods before owning her own antique shop in Dayton, IN.

Dona could be found anywhere that work needed to be done—gardening in the backyard, helping neighbors with their gardens, chasing rabbits from her garden, brooming bats from her attic, or balancing hands full of dishes while standing on a swivel stool. No task was too challenging.

Dona truly loved gardening and was proud to become a Master Gardener. She was filled with joy anytime family was around. Playing cards, mushroom hunting, camping and fishing, and reminiscing through stories were favorite pastimes. As a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Dona was a part of the quilting guild and helped prepare meals for church events.

Surviving are her children Janell L. (Randy) Uerkwitz of Lafayette, IN; Peggy A. (James) Crum of Williamston, MI; Terry W. (Teresa) Brown of Summerfield, NC; sister Sally (Jack) Stonebraker of Muncie, IN; brother Wayne (Sharon) Light of Fort Wayne, IN; along with her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dona was preceded in death by her brother, Carl W. Light, Jr.

Visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1005 North 21st Street in Lafayette on Friday, January 26 from 5 to 7 pm and 1 hour preceding the funeral service. Funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, January 27 at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Rev. Dr. David M. Doane officiating. In memory of Dona, the family would appreciate contributions to Master Gardener Association of Tippecanoe County c/o Dona J. Brown Memorial.

You have finished your work here on Earth. You've left a legacy that's empowered others to respect the person you were. Heaven has gained a wonderful woman that I've been blessed to call my Aunt. We will miss you Aunt Donna.
