Richard O. Longest

Richard Owen Longest, 78, of Lafayette, passed away at 7:40 am, Saturday, April 1, 2017 at his residence. 

Born November 17, 1938 in English, IN, he was the son of the late Ferris and True (Sturgeon) Longest.  After graduating from Remington High School, Richard honorably served in the United States Army with the 26th Transportation Company (Light Helicopter) and was assigned to the personnel payroll center. 

His marriage was to Donna Mae Porter on July 9, 1961 in the Remington United Methodist Church.  She survives. 

Richard owned and operator Rich's Barber Shop in downtown Lafayette for 48 years.  He was a member of Congress Street United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #11, and a 50-year member of the Remington Masonic Lodge #351.  He enjoyed sports and loved being with his family, especially cherishing his grandchildren. 

Surviving with his wife of 55 years, Donna Mae Longest, are their children, Lisa Sheets of Carmel, IN, and Andrew Longest (wife: Gail) of Westfield, IN; five siblings, Berdeen Peacock (husband: Roscoe) of Grand Junction, CO, Knoefel Longest (wife: Boots) of Remington, IN, Kenneth Longest (wife: Linda) of Battle Ground, IN, Helen Heimann (husband: Jerry) of Banning, CA, and Gary Longest (wife: Connie) of Lafayette, IN; three sisters-in-law, Betty Longest, Faye Longest, and Judy Longest; and four grandchildren, Rhiannon Sheets, Dylan Sheets, Claire Longest, and Owen Longest. 

Preceding him in death with his parents are four brothers, Ferris "Jr." Longest, Gene Longest, Larmon Longest, and Gerald Longest. 

Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of funeral service at 1 pm, Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Hippensteel Funeral Home.  Rev. Barbara Marshall officiating.  Private family interment in Remington Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association (P.O.
