Hayden J. Guard

Hayden J. Guard, 84, of Lafayette, passed away at Franciscan East St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette Sunday September 17, 2017 where he had been a patient since August. 29. Hayden was born in Lafayette June 20, 1933, the son of the late Elwin H. and Mary L. Shoemaker Guard and attended Lafayette Jefferson High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Airforce, serving during the Korean War.  Hayden married Patricia L. Adams in Lafayette October 26, 1963, and she survives. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church; enjoyed mushroom hunting, bowling, gardening, fishing, hunting and mowing his yard and watching Purdue University football and basketball.  Hayden was a machinist at TRW-Ross Gear for 48 years, and operated Guard's Refrigeration for 40 years. Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Angie L. Hayworth (Mark) of Lafayette; Dianna L. Hinesley (Brad) of Rossville, IN and Susan L. Jones of Lafayette; a son, Daniel J. Guard of Noblesville, IN and a sister Anita Bronaugh (John) of New Ross, IN. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from the Rosary at 3:45 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 10:30 AM Thursday, Fr. Eric Underwood officiating, with entombment to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with military rites by American Legion Post 11.
