Jean Orndorff Obituary

MATTOON - Carma Jean (West) Orndorff, 86, of Mattoon, passed away at 7:58 p.m. on Monday, May 25, 2009, at Douglas Rehabilitation and Care Center in Mattoon. Visitation for family and friends will be held from Noon until 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, at the Schilling Funeral Home, 1301 Charleston Avenue in Mattoon. Funeral services honoring her life will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. John Calio officiating. Burial will follow in the Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon. Jean was born July 13, 1922, in Sullivan, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas and Maude (Wampler) Cummings. She married James Lloyd "Jim" West Sr. on January 17, 1940. She later married William L. "Bill" Orndorff on December 18, 1970. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, daughter, Patty A. West; and son-in-law, Dwayne Yancey. She is survived by one son, James Lloyd "Jim" West Jr. and wife Maggie of Mattoon; two daughters, Ruth Ellen Yancey of South Mills, North Carolina and Beverly Sue Sweeney and husband Ronald of Mattoon; 6 grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; 24 step great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Orndorff was retired after 29 years from Diamond E Packers and Horn's Frozen Foods. She was a member of the Eagles Club, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and a former member of Women of the Moose. Memorial gifts in her honor are suggested to donor's choice.
