John Stufflebeam Obituary

John Howard Stufflebeam, 63, of Manchester, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Hartford Hospital in Hartford.

He was born in Colchester, Vt., the son of the late Howard and Greta (Swinyer) Stufflebeam. He graduated from Lake Central High School, Class of 1964, where he was the class valedictorian and was involved in many sports, especially baseball. He received his doctorate of electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1973. John had a long and successful career of 37 years as a research scientist with United Technologies Research Center. He twice received UTRC Outstanding Achievement Award. John was an avid sportsman, especially enjoying hunting, fishing, water and cross country skiing.

John is survived by his wife, Barbara (Carrubba) Stufflebeam; his daughters, Rachael and Kelly Stufflebeam, all of Manchester; his brother and sister-in-law, Clayton and Priscilla Stufflebeam of Raleigh, N.C.; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ione and James O'Donnell of Ivins, Utah, and Nancy and Steve Slye of Harrodsburg, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St., Manchester, on Friday, June 11, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday at South United Methodist Church, 1208 Main St., Manchester, at 10:30 a.m., followed by burial in East Cemetery, Manchester.

In lieu of flowers, John's family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
