John R. Hansen

RAYMOND - Passed away on Friday May 1, 2015 at the age of 97 years. Beloved husband of the late Elna (nee Nelson) married for 74 years. Dear father of June (Vern) Baumgart, the late John “Jack”, Richard (Paulette), Linda (Keith) Messerschmidt and Charles Hansen. Loving grandfather of Kris (Fritz) Grutzner, Luann Fliess, Karla (Paul) Hansen, Karen (Bob) Benson, Amy (Tom) Mlot, Tom (Katie) Hansen, Stuart Bernett Jr., Ryan Olsen, Michael Olsen, David (Darcy) Hansen and Nicole (Dennis) Langenfeld. Great grandfather of 19. Preceded in death by his twin brother Pete, 11 other siblings and his great grandson Shaymus. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 5th, 2015 at the Raymond Community United Church Of Christ, 8217 W. Cty Trk G from 9AM until the Time of Service at Noon. The Rev. Manda Stack officiating. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery. John spent his early years in farming and continued this passion in gardening. His career in government began with the Raymond School Board and continued as Raymond Town Chairman for 10 years. He served on the Racine Co. Board for a total of 31 years, was elected to the state legislature and later appointed by President Kennedy to the US Department of Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service of Wisconsin for 10 and county director for another 11 years. John enjoyed his family, gardening, politics and horseshoe pitching. John was proud to have been a lifetime member of the Raymond Community United Church of Christ.
