Dorothy Vallier Obituary

Vallier, Dorothy K. "Dory" (Nee Kopmeier) Entered the Fullness of Eternal Life on November 12, 2013, at the age of 103. Resident of the Milwaukee Catholic Home. Former resident of Mequon and Fox Point. Daughter of the late Meta (nee Uihlein) and Waldemar S. Kopmeier. Preceded in death by sisters Alice and Marguerite, and brothers John and William. Beloved wife of the late Jacque D. Vallier and Gordon E. Kummer. Loving mother of William "Biff" Kummer, Jacque M. (Doreen) Vallier. and the late Wendy (Donald) Trottier. Cherished mother-in-law of Alice Lynn Kummer and the late Sharon Vallier. Survived by seven loving grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Further survived by niece Barbara (Virgil) Magerfleisch and many other nieces, nephews, family and dear friends. Dory, a life-long environmentalist, was past president of Green Tree Garden Club, a two-term director of National Audubon Society (recipient of the Drucker Award), and founding member of Society of Tympanuchus Cupido Pinnatus (prairie chicken). Founder, along with husband Jacque, of the Menomonee Logging Museum, Keshena, WI. Longtime supporter of Crex Meadows, Siren, WI. Donated wetland parcel, "Dory's Bog", a state designated scientific research area, Sarona, WI. Dory was "Founding Mother" of Schlitz Audubon Nature Center in Bayside, WI, and its internationally recognized Dorothy K. Vallier Environmental Learning Center. Donated to UW-Stevens Point Foundation 1000 acres of family tree farm, "Treehaven", a premier natural resources learning center field station, Tomahawk, WI. Dory's nationally recognized collection of Early American Pressed Glass is on permanent display at UW-SP College of Fine Arts and Communication. Annually funds three student scholarships at UW-SP College of Natural Resources. Dory, with husband Jacque, was inducted into the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame in 2010. Long-time supporter of the Evans Scholars Program, established Kummer House at UW-Madison. She was the longest living member of the Woman's Club of Wisconsin and a graduate of Milwaukee Downer Seminary and Wellesley College. Dory was loved and admired by many. She was regal in appearance, loving in her actions. She will be remembered for her confidence, empathy and understanding. Her graciousness was contagious and lasting. Visitation will be held at the Feerick Funeral Home on Monday, November 18, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. with a time for sharing at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Robert Catholic Church in Shorewood on Tuesday, November 19, at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to: UW-Stevens Point at Treehaven, W2540 Pickerel Creek Ave., Tomahawk, WI 54487; or Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, Preschool Program, 1111 E. Brown Deer Rd., Bayside, WI 53217. The family would like to thank the staffs of Stowell Associates and the Milwaukee Catholic Home for their years of wonderful care and service.
