Robert R. Bogan Sr.

Bogan, Robert R., Sr. Found peace surrounded by his family on September 22, 2013, at the age of 89 years. Beloved husband of Joanne for 45 years. Loving father of Robert, Jr., Lana Strassel, Vickie (Jerome) Schuh, Wayne (Kathy) Custer, Lynn (Michael) Huenink, Gail (Timothy) Novak, Laura (Thomas) Lessnau, and Gordon (Donna) Custer. Dear grandfather of 13 and great-grandfather of 10. Brother of Richard (the late Betty) Bogan and Ron (Marilyn) Cron. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and his beloved dog, Sable. Visitation on Friday, September 27, 2013, at the Funeral Home from 4 PM until the time of service at 7 PM. Burial on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Wisconsin Memorial Park at 10 AM. Please meet in the red parking area. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Us TOO International Memorial Fund for prostate cancer or to the Alzheimer's Association appreciated. Bob served in the US Navy as a signalman during WWII. When the Korean Conflict started, he felt the call to duty and re-enlisted. After the end of the conflict, Bob settled in Milwaukee and established his career at Gimbel's. In 1986, Bob retired and began a very active life as a woodworker, golfer and volunteer. Being a survivor of prostate cancer, he organized the Us TOO group at the VA Center in Milwaukee. He remained the leader of the group until this spring. Bob felt that it was important to visit veterans who were in hospice at the VA. He trained his dogs as volunteers and took them to visit the vets weekly. In 2004, Bob was inducted into the Milwaukee County Senior Hall of Fame for his dedication to the Washington Park Senior Center as a volunteer. In 2010, Bob and his dog, Sable, were featured in an article in the 50Plus newspaper about their volunteer efforts at the VA. Bob also served on the board at the Washington Park Senior Center and continued to be active even when his health began to fail. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the VA Center and at Virginia Highlands for their special care and attention to Bob. Bob will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
