To the Sartin family. Mr. Sartin had a deifinite effect upon me as he student taught at E.E. Phillipp Grade School in 1957. He was the first person of color that I had ever gotten to know as a person. The way he carried himself and his intelligence broke all the stereotypes that were abounding in that era. You have a right to be proud of your heritage. I learned the academics from him but more importunity, I learned humanity.

You took us higher than we ever thought we could achieve. Because of your drive, smarts and never say die attitude, we became the first African American Cross Country team at Lincoln HS to become State Champions in 1963.
