Robert Rubner Obituary

Rubner, Robert D. Robert David Rubner was called home March 10, 2011, at the age of 58 years. Robert is survived by his loving wife Christine (McRoberts) and his devoted son Nicholas "Nick". Also survived by his brothers and sisters, Jim (Sue) Rubner, Carol Powell, John Rubner, Mary Rice (nee Rubner) Jim Bong, Joanne (nee Rubner) Mike Willie, Tom (Lynn) Rubner and Rick Rubner. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Mid and Len and his brother, Joe Rubner. He is also survived many other relatives and friends that are too numerous to mention. Robert lived a very worldly life. He traveled extensively through the U.S., Caribbean and Europe. He lived in Austria for 9 years. He met Christine at McBob's in 1988 and began a new chapter of his life back in his home town. Robert brought his cooking talents to McBob's to help create the successful business that it is today. With his love of all things Celtic he used his artistic eye to transform the interior of McBob's with art pieces representing both the Irish and Scottish heritage. Robert belonged to the Masonic Lake Lodge #189 F&AM, the Tripoli Shrine Highlanders and was a member of the Directors Staff. Robert was a self taught intellect from his extensive travels and his love of books. Finally, Robert loved his family and his McBob's family with all his heart. He loved to spend time with Nick and his friends telling stories about his travels and experiences. He also liked to tell his McBob's family the life and times of "Shaemus". Robert, you will be sorely missed. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, March 19, beginning at 10AM, at the Funeral Home followed by Masonic Services at 11:15AM. Following the Services a traditional Irish Wake in Robert's honor will be held at McBob's, 4919 W. North Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please give to Nicholas R. Rubner's revocable Supplemental Trust for his college education and health needs. RAASCH-RAETZ FUNERAL HOME 7709 W. Burleigh 414-445-7404

My uncle Bob was one of the most interesting and intelligent men I've ever had the pleasure of knowing; I will miss him greatly. Since I arrived in Milwaukee a week ago for my uncle's service I have gotten to know my cousin Nick Rubner as a man and no longer a little boy. I thank God that our world is blessed with a man sharing similiar intensity and intellect as my late uncle Bob. upon returning to Denver, CO I will be able to rest assured that Nickie and Aunt Chris will be surrounded by wonderful friends and family.

My brother, Bob, was honored in a great way. The turnout for his Memorials, both Masonic and McBob's were truly moving. To see how many people's lives were touched in some way by him is inspirational. His memory will live well beyond my years.

Robert was an "old soul". Could it be that his time had come? Some things we will never know. He told me that his troubles were strictly between him and God. It is with faith that I say Robert is with his Maker.

My daughter, Vanessa, moved into Christine's and Robert's neighborhood a little over a year ago......her first home......and was a bit uneasy about her neighborhood choice and about how she, a newcomer, would be accepted into the neighborhood. Robert greeted her one day and offered her assistance with anything she may need, whether she had questions to be answered or help with any homeowner task. Christine became a fast neighborhood friend.....even brought her some flowers to plant in her "fledgling garden". Robert and Christine basically set down the "Welcome Mat" for my daughter, and made her realize that she had moved to the exact right spot in Milwaukee.

My daughter is shocked and deeply saddened over the sudden loss of Robert, with whom she had hoped to have more wonderful conversations over the years...........and so steeped in sorrow that such an amazing woman like Christine has lost her soulmate and best friend. She is overjoyed, however, that she had the privilege of meeting Robert and the honor of being blessed by the "welcome conversation"...........and overjoyed by the thought that she has come to know Christine, whose forthright nature, generosity, and friendship she will treasure all the more over years to come.

I guess my point here is that through my daughter, Vanessa, I know Robert and Christine. Goodness, after all, transcends geographic boundaries and the limitations of one's own neighborhood. Goodness is shared by those who experience the kindness, therefore extending out into the world, permeating the thoughts and hearts of others. I am blessed to have "known" Robert.......and blessed to "know" Christine.

My condolences to Christine, Nick, and all of Robert's family and friends. Much peace and love to all of you.

I have been going to McBob's nearly half my life and everyone there has touched my life as well as my family's life in such a positive way...especially Robert. We felt like part of the McBob's Family and hope they will always feel a part of ours.
Even though I'm on the other side of the continent, some of my favorite moments have been at McBob's and Irish Fest. I was shocked to come back to Milwaukee for the St. Patty's Day parade and hear that part of our Family was no longer with us, but I will continue to always remember the good times and return when I can. Where else can I get pickles in my taco?!

My heart goes out to all of the McBob's Family. May Robert save a seat for me along with my late husband, Steven ... see you both on the other side.
Love, P-Nut

Robert with his hearts beating red of love and compassion did wonderful and selfless acts to many he touched through out his life. Robert whom comforted me during my devastating time when I lost my mother before her time. Robert kindly offered his compassion words of comfort and his garden to pick as much Sage as I wanted, to burn during ceremony, I wanted to honor my mother at her Memorial. I will NEVER forget that....NEVER...it was a truly sweet, selfless, and thoughtful gesture.

Robert really honored Native Culture and would said, "Well, Sarah you know, we actually in tradition anciently and culturally in Gaelic and Native Americans (then, he would put his hand on my shoulder, I mean Ojibway for you my LittleRedfeather with a smile) are VERY similar and just almost the same," as he would say in his cute Celtic accent role. He would say how the music style, instruments, morals and community values family and togetherness while honoring the earth and nature is of the same traditionally for us Gaelic's and Scott’s Man too.

I learned many things from Robert with his philosophy and world-wide culture knowledge. Especially traditional Celtic and Scottish traditions which I cherish for traditions along with Tribal have been lost. He shared his knowledge, inspirations and art. Robert, a humanitarian, is the mentor to us all. Our hearts and minds of our community bringing us new fellowships, friendships and circle of closeness with Humanity.

Robert is forever embedded in mine and our hearts...the heart of our community...going to miss the stories about, 'Shaemus'... I am going to miss Robert's smiling face, radiant spirit and friendship. ?

God looked around His garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so he closed your weary eyelids and whispered "Peace be thine". It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home.
Robert, you will be sorely missed by all your Masonic and Shrine families. God bless you.

I have been thinking about Bob everyday since I heard the news. I am mourning our loss right along with the rest of the McBob Family. Bob will truly be missed. God Bless him and take care of him.

March 18, 2011

Dear Christine and Nick,
I pray that God will replace your sorrow in this time of grief with the many happy memories of only the good times you shared with Robert. I will always remember him as a man who deeply loved his family first and foremost, but also loved all those he met on life's journey. The Milwaukee Hurling club has lost a dear friend. My fondest memory of him is from the year I played for the McBob's team. I walked off the pitch worn and battered but when Robert walked up, gave me a hug, grinned and said "good game old man", I felt like a kid again. Your suffering has ended Robert; rest gently in God's arms.

March 18, 2011

Dear Christine and Nick,
I pray that God will rapidly replace your suffering in this time of grief with the fond memories of only the good times you shared with Robert. I will always remember him as a man who loved not only his family but all the people he encountered on life's journey. The Milwaukee Hurling Club has lost a dear friend. The year I played for McBob's was one of the last of the many I played Hurling. But though worn and battered when leaving the pitch, when Robert gave me that grin and said "good game old man" I knew it was worth the pain. May you rest easy in God's arms Robert.

Through a mighty strength:
