If you can, please consider donating in honor of Brittany. It takes up to 30 units of blood for an organ transplant. 7 years ago today,210 units of blood were needed as Brittany's organs were transplanted into their new souls.

It's me again. I received this update from Legacy today and unusual how punctual the timing was. I felt compelled to leave another message.
When I read about your loss and how your family got up and did the right thing in your heart, even in the distress you were experiencing, I knew I had to compliment you for your courage.
Little did I know that in less than 6 months I would be facing a similar sadness with the loss of my 39 year old son, Allan. He, like Brittany, could light up the room with his smile.
Dec. 1, 2013 I received that unexpected and unwanted call that my son has just passed away in Florida where he had lived and worked for about the past 5 years. It was the most frightening words I have ever heard...within minutes, the thought of him earning everlasting rest and peace filled my mind only for a moment but, not my heart. I'm working on that peace and have much love and support around me.
Now, he is back home in Wisconsin and we will celebrate his life Saturday, Jan.25, 2014 at a Waukesha church.
I didn't have the option to donate his organs as he would have liked but, he left behind many wonderful memories and I feel confident that he is already busy with the a
other angels, working on new projects.
I felt compelled to send you another message today and felt there was some unknown reason as to why I asked Legacy.com to send me an email when there were updates about Brittany so I could hear all the wonderful comments others were sharing about Brittany. Again, never met her but, felt I missed her goodness when I read the article in the paper about the tragedy your family had encountered last summer and the good person, Brittany, was lost.
Hope you are all well and still wish you the best going forward. Now, Brittany and Allan might work on some projects together...we'll never know for sure but, can dream just the same.
Peace.

Although I have never met Brittany or any of her family, I am moved by the seemingly impossible tragedy you have been afflicted by. Yet, your faith is giving you the strength you need to go forward. After reading the story, I can believe we can miss someone we have never met, like the heart of the friend so many found in knowing Brittany. Your commitment of her to the donor program is the most humble choice your family could have made at a moment when the choices you were presented with must have seemed uncomprehendable. Those recipients and families will be forever greatful to you. Thank you for allowing others to live on in your wake of such loss.

Brittany .... and family.
I am only alive today because at the worst time of their lives and yours ... you and your loved ones placed others before yourselves and gave the ultimate gift ...The Gift of Life.
I received a life saving organ - a liver - from someone and their family, 13 year ago.
Bless you and your family. You are hero's. Each and every one of you. Forever you will be held in my heart and prayers.
You will live on and so will others because of your love.
Thank you so much. Words aren't adequate enough.

I've been following this story since I heard about Brittany's accident--I'm an avid cyclist and anytime someone is lost in such a way it really gets my attention. However, this story has morphed into an even more touching one for me. As the spouse of a wonderful man whose life was extended in 1989 by generous donors and donor families like you all, I commend you for this beautiful way to honor your lovely daughter. Thank you for sharing your story in the news to help bring more awareness to organ donation. Maybe we'll be fortunate enough to meet the Barnstable family at next year's transplant games or at a WI Donate Life event.

To Brittanys family;
I was so sadden to hear of your loss. I am the health aide at Whitnall middle school. I remember Brittany coming in sometimes and how polite she always was. May you find peace in knowing that she lives on in the lives she has saved. When people read her story I wish for them to think about signing their donor card. What a wonderful gift she has given the world. There is a song that says "Its not what you have in this world, its what you leave behind" May God Bless your family and may you find peace knowing that your daughter made the ultimate difference.

Dear Barnstable & Mickey Families,
I can't seem to find the words to express how very sorry I am that you are all experiencing such a loss in your lives right now. I have a 15-yr old son, and it just breaks my heart to look at him because I can't even imagine what I would do in the same situation.
I grew up with the Barnstable family, & can't send enough love to Bonnie, Brian, Sandy & Bob. I'm also the aunt of Jennifer & Jacquelyn Hanneman, so knew Colleen when she played soccer with Jackie. My most heart-felt condolences go out to Michelle and the Mickey family, as well.
Brian & Michelle - how wonderful that you had that conversation about donating organs, and were able to make that important decision to donate Brittany's organs. She will live on through God, and through those whose lives she helped save.
Blessings and love to all of you,
Tammy (Hanneman) Miller

I don't know Brittany but I wanted to let you know how deeply sorry I am for the loss of your daugher and your sister! Words just don't seem enough to express my sorrow for your family! The gift of life that you past on will forever change those families. May the Lord hold you close in his arms and may you find the peace that only God can give you through this very difficult time. I admire that through your own sorrow you were able to give the gift of life to others.

To Grandfather Robert: I distinctly remember your love for family. This came through loud and clear in your classes, love for life and personal ambition. Your tragic news takes me right back to when my brother, at age 18, was killed on his cycle. He was headed to his softball game when a drunk ran a stop sign. The sadness permeates the souls of my family to this day. He is remembered fondly as no doubt Brittany will be.
May His Blessings find their way into your heart.

To the Barnstable Family,
No family should have to endure a pain like this, let alone twice, but the selfless love you all show for others during this difficult time is amazing. To visit Whitnall, to give life and hope to others and a voice to organ donation, is something so many will always respect.
Our deepest sympathy to all of you. May God bless you all, especially Brittany.

To Brittany's family, especially her grandparents, Mel & Jill Mickey.
I knew Mel and Jill when I worked at St. Therese parish 9 years ago.
I just read Brittany's story in the paper. My heart aches for such a tragic loss of vibrant life. But I admire the parents' ability to think of the good Brittany could do for others through transplants. My neighbor had a heart transplant a year ago that gave him life when he was near death. He now has a new lease on life.
Brittany, like her aunt Colleen, lives on in the gift of life to others.
To think of others at a time of the great pain of your own personal loss is a sign of tremendous love.
All of you are in my prayers.
