James Bamberger Obituary

Bamberger, James A. March 1, 2011. The family of James A. Bamberger publishes this remembrance to celebrate his life and to honor his passing on March 1, 2011. Born on July 20, 1926, Jim was the second son of George and Adelaide (Levy) Bamberger. Jim married his childhood sweetheart and for 56 years was the loving husband and life companion to Dorothy (Shimon) Bamberger. Passing from this life in August 2008, Dorothy spent the last couple years waiting for Jim to join her, which he has now done. Jim was the father of six children, five of whom survive him and through whom he lives on: Judy Bamberger of Canberra, Australia (Bram van Oosterhout), Jill (Bob) Dizack of Glendale, WI, Jim Bamberger (Nancy Eastham) of Olympia, WA, Jeff (Janine) Bamberger of Brookfield, WI, and Julie (Mike) Roubik of Shorewood, WI. Jim loved and was loved by his eight grandchildren Jennifer (Aaron) Putnam, Aaron (Anna) Dizack, Nowell Bamberger, Kristin Bamberger, Philip Dizack, Matthew Bamberger (Tracy Galewski), Daniel Bamberger, Ellen Bamberger and great-granddaughter, Nadia Putnam. Jim cherished every moment with his family, whenever and wherever he could. Jim had a kaleidoscope-like personality; with an uncanny ability to bring color, light and joy to everyone he met. Jim was able to meet each person where they were, from any walk of life. Funny, self-deprecating, needling and, at all times, humble and grateful for what he experienced in life - that was Jim. He loved people; he loved life with people. And when someone asked for help, Jim was there to provide it, no questions asked. Family was a major focus of Jim's life. He attended, participated in and supported many sporting, social and musical events in which his children and grandchildren were involved. He was always there to listen, guide, provide guidance by word and example, encourage and give a pat on the back. His sense of humor and boyish-like behaviors brought joy and laughter to all. These characteristics live on through his children and grandchildren. To all who loved him and all whose lives he touched, Jim was a friend, mentor, cheerleader, pal and so much more. He found happiness in the lives, passions and activities of others, lived his life ethically, was humble to a fault and demonstrated the greatest respect for others. Jim spent his entire professional career working for the Ladish Co. of Cudahy, WI. After 47 years he retired to travel by car, train and cruise ship with Dorothy, spend time with kids and grandkids, make new friends here and abroad and pursue various passions and volunteer activities. Along with Dorothy, Jim was an active supporter of and volunteer with the Milwaukee Florentine Opera where he and Dorothy established the James and Dorothy Bamberger Education Fund to support the Florentine's outreach efforts to local schools. In lieu of flowers, we welcome contributions to The Jim and Dorothy Bamberger Education Fund, c/o Florentine Opera, 700 N. Water Street, Suite 950, Milwaukee, WI 53202 or the charity of your choice. Grateful for his life and example, we close with Jim's own words: "I've lived a great life, have a wonderful family, and have no regrets." March 3, 2011

I'm very sorry to hear of Jim's passing.

I knew Jim and Dorothy during my time with the Forentine Opera and Present Music.

No 2 people were more dedicated or more fun to work with. They will both be missed.

In the 2 1/2 years I've worked at the Glen Cafe where he came in to eat every day, I have grown to love him like a dad. He made my day as most days he was our first customer of the morning and he always made it a happy one! Your dad was a wonderful guy and he will be so missed! All of us at the Glen Cafe will be thinking of the entire family during this difficult time! Thank you Jim, for all the memories!

I send my heartfelt sympathy to the entire Bamberger family as you mourn the loss of dear Jim. I also celebrate his amazing life with you.

When Jim and Dorothy's son, Jeff, married my sister, Janine, they made it their mission to adopt not only her, but our entire family as their own. From that time forward, we were included in their family events, birthdays, and especially, their sumptuous Thanksgiving dinners. Laughter was always on the menu, and Jim served up heaping helpings with his broad smile and twinkling eyes.

I so admire Jim for the way he lived his life with dignity and grace, and then, orchestrated his transition in the same way. He was/is unconditional love.

I commend the Bamberger family members for the way you showed support and cared for Jim and hope that you can find comfort in knowing you facilitated a peaceful, dignified transition, surrounding him with an unbroken circle of love as he made his rendezvous with Dorothy.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Aloha Jim!

Love,
