Landis Scott Obituary

Scott, Landis George "Landy" Age 95, of Greenfield, died November 3, 2014, surrounded by family. He was born June 21, 1919 to the late George and Laura Schaetz in Oconto, Wisconsin. Landy and his family moved to Milwaukee in 1929. At the young age of 14, Landy began his career as a carpenter working for his family and later as the foreman at Warnbrunn Construction where he worked for 25 years. Landy's dreams for becoming a race car driver were interrupted when he was drafted into the Army Air Corps after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. While in the service Landy married Dorothy Cira of Milwaukee and began his family. After receiving an honorable discharge from the service, as a World War II veteran, Landy bought his first midget race car and began his racing career. Landy raced at dirt tracks, including the Milwaukee Mile and throughout the mid-west for 15 years and served as the president of the Badger Midget Auto Racing Association from 1951 - 1959. In 1977 Landy moved to Los Angeles, California. He also lived in Las Vegas, Nevada before returning to his roots in Wisconsin in 2009. Landy is survived by his six children Michael, Lannis, Thomas, Daniel, Gary and Sharon, 10 grand children and 12 great - grandchildren. Landy was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (d. 1982), the mother of his children, his second wife Elaine (d. 2009) and a grandson, Daniel Jr. (d. 2008). Landy will be missed by everyone who met him, he was that special of a man. I had him in my life for 66 years, you see he was my dad. I even got my name from him (Lannis) and he designed and helped us build our home. So we feel him with us everyday. We LOVE & MISS you dad.

When I think of Landy the first thing that comes to mind is, What a character. You couldn't help but to smile as he would share stories and tell you what was on his mind. It was an honor to spend time with you Landy. May you rest in peace.

Tom & I send our deepest condolences to your family. Landy was a good friend not only to Mom, but also to me. I will truly miss him. I have so many memories of him & Dorothy. And of course that includes great memories of the fun I had with his children. God bless all of you. I hope to see you some day.

We will miss Dad's stories, talks we had and Fatherly advise. He helped me build a deck on my Home. He was an Awesome Carpenter. He was very worldly and knew so much. I am so proud to tell anyone that he was my Father & Father in-Law, respectively. He got to know my Wife's family, her parents and her Grandpa before he passed away. We will never meet another person like Landy. He was one of a kind! Rest in Peace Landy, you are in our thoughts every single day. We will never forget you!
