Myrsine Petrie

Petrie, Myrsine Portage, Michigan Myrsine Petrie, age 87 of Portage, died on May 29, 2022. She was born on May 24, 1935, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of James and Katheryn (Vassell) Vangelakos. A 1953 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, Myrsine graduated from the Chicago Art Institute. She worked in Chicago designing women's and children's clothing. She also did needlepoint design and sales. On September 16, 1961, she married Richard "Dick" Petrie, who preceded her in death. They loved to travel to Europe and in the U.S. They also participated in the arts in Kalamazoo. Myrsine was a member of the Philoptachos Society at the Greek Orthodox Church. Her family includes her brother, Constantine Vangelakos of Fort Wayne and several nieces and nephews and cousins in the Kalamazoo area and on the East Coast. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, from 5-7 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 622 S. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo, where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Myrsine's name may be directed to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or a charity of your choice.
