Lucille Croll Obituary
Lucille Mae (Bantz) Croll passed away on March 17, 2009 at Brighton Gardens in Prairie Village, Kansas, where she had resided for nearly five years. Lucille was born on July 3, 1914 to C. Jay and Nellie (Bowers) Bantz in Independence, Iowa. She grew up in Ipswich, South Dakota, and graduated from Ipswich High School in 1932. On July 15, 1940, Lucille was married to Dwight Lane Croll in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and the loving relationship lasted for sixty-four years until Dwight passed away on July 19, 2004. Together they lived in Huron and Canton, SD; Pittsburgh, PA; and since 1960 in Overland Park, Kansas. In Overland Park they built their own home at 9615 Delmar where they resided from 1964-2004. An elementary classroom teacher all her life, Lucille taught in Sturgis, SD; Hand County, SD; Canton, SD (principal); Huron, SD; Pittsburgh, PA, and lastly Prairie Village, Kansas where she taught in the Shawnee Mission Public Schools at Corinth School from 1961 to 1979. Lucille graduated from the University of Pittsburgh (PITT) in Pittsburgh, PA. Lucille's interests included sewing, golfing, fishing, cooking, painting and music. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for fifty-four years. She is survived by her sister Marna (Earle--deceased) Hagen, Ipswich, SD; sister-in-law, Edith (Les-deceased) Croll, Miller, SD; nieces Pamela (Don- deceased) Bain, Flint, MI; Kathryn (Gene) Stobbs, Brooklyn Park, MN; and Carola (William) Winkle, Boise, ID; nephew Larry (Janne') Croll, Chandler, AZ; special friends Rick and Heidi Allen, Leawood, KS; and great-nieces and nephews Roger and Scott Bain, Michelle Dillard, Steve (Julie) and Andy Stobbs, Tricia (Marty) Olson, Matthew and Michael Croll, Ty Stevens, Brianne Hill, Brenda Winkle Wilber, and Rachelle (Michael) Winkle Wagner. Lucille was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dwight, her parents, sisters-in-law Geneva Croll and Alys (Roger) Stensland, brother-in-laws Leslie Croll and Leland (Irene) Croll and Earle Hagen. D.W. Newcomer's Sons did the arrangements and burial was on March 20, 2009 in Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, Kansas.
