ROBERT ALLINDER Obituary

Robert Ellis Allinder, age 57, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2012. He was born on Aug. 18, 1954 in Independence, MO, the son of Jo Ann (Best) and Dr. Bert Allinder. He is survived by his wife of 21 years Therese Murray-Allinder, his favorite sister Mary Allinder-Greenlee, her husband Lynn, and his mother In-law Donna Murray. Robbie was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Jo Ann, his brother Stephen, and his father In-law Thomas F. Murray. Rob was blessed (or loaded with) a myriad of nieces and nephews. On the Allinder side, Mary's sons: Michael, wife Amanda and son Isaac Hatesohl, Andrew Bert and last but not least Thomas Hatesohl; on the Murray side: Allison and her son Thomas Nathaniel Murray, Thomas and Kelli and their daughters Jaiden and Mackenzie Zada Murray, Emily Lionberger, Jackson and Grace Power. Robert Ellis, (he was usually in trouble when called by both given names – and I am a tad cranky with him right now), graduated from Truman High School and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers out of high school, but with some fatherly advice, (and probably a boot in his behind), he chose to attend KU on a full athletic scholarship; he also played semi-pro baseball in Dodge City and Hutchinson, KS, during that time frame. Robbie loved many, many things. . . These come in no particular order as that too could change on any given day. First and foremost his big, adorable, black lab puppy 'Moakie Dog' as he is such a good boy; and second, the herd of cats: Sophia Maria, the Cat Lestat, and BeelzaBob. He always made an event out of watching KU basketball, no let me re-phrase, 'any and everything KU.' He loved fly fishing, the tale of the big one, working in the yard, gardening, giving Mary Lou a really hard time over anything but being late in particular, throwing swim parties in the backyard with all of the neighbors and the kids, his wife, and traveling abroad -- anywhere. He truly enjoyed all of his time with family and friends; his heart was in the right place. A celebration of Robert's life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. Burial will be held in Mount Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Haven, 9800 W. 67th St, Merriam, KS 66203. He was loved by many and will be missed by more. May peace be with you Robbie. . .In honor of Robbie we will be dressing in our school colors for both services. That is KU shirts, jeans, and tennis shoes; please wear your own school colors! I grew up watching Rob hit home runs over the train tracks above Chrysler Stadium and pitching gems. Breaking his Discus record at Palmer 3 years behind him still ranks as one of my best memories. I wish I had the chance to know him as an adult. Sounds like he was a wonderful family man and may Blessings be on all the family and friends left behind!

Rob was a team mate and room mate in my first year at KU, and he was like an onery big brother who actually gave good advice, but also knew how to kick back and have some fun, too. He had a wicked sense of humor, great fastball, competitive spirit and giant heart. My wife, Janet, who also knew Rob, and myself will miss the big lug and we send our most sincere condolences to your family with the loss of our good buddy. May you celebrate his life long and often as we all know that is how he would most want to be remembered.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of this man. He was a great guy to work with and I was always glad to see him. I was lucky to have known him. Without his sarcastic encouragement I may not have decided to go out on that first date with my now husband. Thanks Rob! We will miss you! Rock Chalk!

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all who loved him.
