I only just now found out some 9 months later Pat had passed and I am so sorry. Pat was a friend from the insurance business and a lunch buddy. We worked together for several years. I will always remember going to the eaterys with him.

KC Irish events just won't be the same without Pat volunteering, selling raffel tickets or just taste testing the Jamison. Pat was a tradition all himself without a personal agenda that will be missed in the Irish Community.

Dear Susie and family,

I was so sorry to read about Pat's passing. I remember him when our boys were at Rockhurst High School, he always had a smile and seemed to really enjoy life to the fullest. My heart goes out to you and your children. Pat and all of you will remain in my prayers.

Dear Ted, Susie and Allison,
I was so sad to hear about Pat's passing. I feel blessed to not only have had in my life as a child with our family trips to St. Louis and such, but then to reconnect with him again later as an adult. He was always great to share a laugh with but had an open ear when you needed someone to talk to as well. I will miss him and I know he was very well loved by so many. I hope the love of your family and friends are helping you at this difficult time, and that all of your memories of him keep his spirit with you always.
Much love,

Mary Kay & Ron Graver

Susie, Allison and Ted: My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I will always remember Pat as a smiling and happy Irishman who loved to tell stories. I smile thinking of him. I was unaware of his death until this morning or I would have come to St. Peter's to pay my respects in person. May God Bless you all,

It seems like yesterday that Pat and his smile were such a great part of Rockhurst High during the '50's. Our thoughts and prayers are for him and his family.

Pat was a wonderful man and a great mentor to me. "Sing louder than you play" was his Irish diplomacy re: my sub par guitar playing. But he always got me laughing as he taught me virtually every Irish folk song printed in the Soodlums books. He brought a sense of control to every panicky parade moment and always seemed to know what to do next. This city will miss him. Denny Lowe

Pat Hughes was a wonderful man who will be geatly missed by his family and many, many friends. He loved life, his family, his faith and his Irish heitage and the Democratic party. There is an old saying that to be Irish is to be,"born with an angel on you tongue". Pat didn't have just one angel, he had a whole choir, and he kept them busy with his wondeful wit and wisdom. He loved a good story, and nobody told a better one. I'll close with an old Irish blessing that both Pat and I found amusing, "May you be in Heaven a half hour befoe the devil knows you're dead! Pat. old friend, I'm sure you made the deadline!

I'm sorry to be a long time friend of Allison, but never to have met her family and especially now, her dad. My prayers are with the Hughes family. I was told once that grief is the price we pay for love. I find that (somewhat) comforting. I'm glad you are surrounded with those that love you and loved your dad and remember him so fondly. Sarah

Allison & family, so sorry to hear about your dad. He was such a cute and fun man, I will always remember him visiting you at Mizzou and hanging out with us at Harpo's and football games. I think of him with his pipe and cap, and a big smile on his face. Your dad and family were always so welcoming of your out-of-state friend, guess it didn't hurt that I was a Democrat. Thinking of you all and sending love. Katey (Newell) Hobbs

Dear Susie, Allison and Ted:

Both Jacque and I are so sorry about your loss. Pat's visits to St. Louis were always a high point for both of us. These visits give to me the loving memories of not only K.C. but of our beloved Irish Heritage. I feel confident that Pat is in the palm of God's hands.

To the Hughes Clan: Sincere condolences. What a "hoot" Pat was. We use to throw papers together for George & Sandy Wilbur - The bundle stop - 51st Main. For a short time, I joined his "hot rod" club, that failed miserbly. I think he secretly loved George Bush. A grand man with an Irish heart of gold. Terry Aleshire

It is hard to count the many ways in which Pat and I interacted: St. Peter's, kid's sports, purchasing commercial insurance products, Democratice politics, St. Patrick's Day Parardes, Hibernians, Irish Rebel Songs, the 1996 KCRFC Tour of Ireland. He is missed.

I first met Pat at a scheduling meeting for rugby teams when I was going to KU in 1973. He was literally the life of the meeting. We later worked together at R.B. Jones Insurance. Pat could light up a room with his personality and was always a great guy to talk to whenever you ran into him. Everyone shared that same wonderful impression of Pat.

To The Hughes Family,
Pat was a true Irishman in every sense of the word. He will be missed by many who loved him and cared for him. I miss seeing around the Irish events in the city. But I know he was inn heaven a half hour before the Devil knew he passed away.
At times like this I like to recall the Irish blessing "May God hold him the palm of his hand until you meet again...

Pat and I knew each other a bit at Rockhurst high school, but we became great friends while serving together 5-1/2 years in the Air Force Reserve -- one weekend every month and 2 weeks each summer. Pat made the dreary weekends fun with his carefree attitude and charm. He will be missed.
