Timothy Edwin Johnson, 49, of Kansas City, MO, passed away January 15, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be 4-7PM Sunday, January 20 at McGilley State Line Chapel, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7PM. Immediately following the Rosary there will be a "Time for Sharing." A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM on Monday, January 21 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 815 East Meyer Blvd., Kansas City, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145, or to Elyse Johnson's education fund, checks payable to Community America Credit Union and sent to/care of McGilley State Line Chapel. Tim was born May 16, 1963 in Kansas City, MO. He attended Rockhurst High School and the Loretto Academy. He received an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts in 1989 from the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, VT. Upon graduation, he and Joanie moved to San Francisco where he completed his internship with Bon Appetit. Returning to Kansas City in 1991, Tim worked as executive chef for several catering companies, then Sebree and Crestwood Galleries, which moved in 2002 and became Webster House, serving as Executive Chef until 2005. He then joined Johnson County Community College as its Executive Chef for all Dining Services as well as creating food concepts for Café Tempo and the college's catering service. Tim was a leader in the college's sustainability efforts and held a sustainability dinner and expo each year. Tim won medals at the National Association of College and University Food Service Regional Culinary Challenges in 2007 and 2008, and served as the chairman in 2011. He was well known and respected throughout the Kansas City culinary community. Tim is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joanie Flanagan; his children, Ian and Elyse; his Mother, Joan (McWilliams) Johnson; his sisters Deborah Johnson and Sheree Johnson; his brother Jeff Johnson and wife Lucy Johnson; and his nephew Nick Johnson, niece Katie (Johnson) Smith and her husband Randy Smith. Tim is also survived by several beloved Aunts, many cousins, his slew of Flanagan in-laws and close friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved Uncles' Mike, Larry and Terry; father, Joseph E. Johnson; and his mother and father-in-law, Marie and John Flanagan. Tim's passion was his love of family. He loved to laugh and dance, had an offbeat sense of humor, and a flair for the dramatic. He loved his Chiefs, good or bad, and was an unwavering Jayhawk basketball fan. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor. He held a special place in so many people's hearts and will be missed dearly. Condolences may be left online at www.mcgilleystatelinechapel.com. I am so very very sorry to hear of this news. Your family has always meant so much to me. Moving back to KC in the mid 90's and drawing a winning lottery ticket by getting to be your next door neighbors is probably one of the highlights of my life. I love you all and wish peace for you always.

Joanie, Ian, And Elyse~
We are deeply sorry for your loss. Our prayers are with you all during this time. Found an Irish Blessing that made me think of Tim...just know that he is always with you all in spirit.

"Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on the snow. I am the sunlight that ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush; Of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the soft star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die." ~Irish Blessing.

Much love, Sheila, Siobhan, and Alana Rowan

Sincere condolences to the Johnson family. Through his enthusiastic involvement in JCCC's CSA program, I was introduced to many new recipes. He taught me how to make the most delicious whole roast chicken—it's one of Ben's and my favorite dishes. Despite my endless questions, he was always patient and upbeat—such a very giving person. He will be greatly, greatly missed.

One of the rarest of people that placed no parameters on friendship. It did not matter if days, weeks or years had gone by there was no time limit on his acceptance of you as who you were the moment he saw you.
A spirit like his is never lost to those that loved him.

Tim will truly be missed. My favorite memory of him: he was a groomsman in our wedding and he came to the country club in the rented tux. About 2 am the tux guy was going back to Como and wanted to take the suit with him. After some words, Tim took the tux off, handed it back to the guy and drove home in his skivvies. We've laughed about it for 15 years. RIP buddy. You were a great friend and an amazing chef!
