I am so sorry for your loss! I've spoken with him throughout my 30 years in special education. Oh my goodness this hurts to hear of his passing. Dr. Simpson was the best advisor ever, and most trustworthy. I want his family to know how great he was! I was just ready to reach out to him again for advice. I didn't know he had passed. Prayers and thoughts your way always! He was a fantastic leader and mentor. Hugs to his family... God bless all of you.

My condolences to the family of Dr. Richard Simpson. I have been away from KU and Lawrence for many years but get a glimpse through "The Jayhawk Educator." I was very saddened to come across the obituary in the spring 2018 edition learning that Dr. Simpson had passed away unexpectedly in November. I owe him many thank yous for investing in me as a graduate student from the first course I took one summer during my Ed.S. degree in school psychology on individualized planning in special education to the autism training grant that I and my colleagues from Seaman Unified School District in Topeka were fortunate to take advantage of from 1997-1999 to being on my doctoral dissertation committee. It's been 16 years since I graduated with my Ph.D. and left Kansas. I have utilized every drop of what I learned in Dr. Simpson's courses in my professional career. I am extremely thankful to have had had the opportunity to have known Dr. Simpson and to have learned from him.
