KEVIN GLYNN Obituary

Kevin Eric Glynn, 71, died peacefully April 3rd, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father James and mother Catherine (Audley), brother-in-law Tony Rinella, sisters-in- law Barbara Latenser, Mary Franzen, and Sharon Marsee. Kevin is survived by his wife, Judith; his son, David and wife Kerry and their children, Henry and Ellen; daughter, Sarah LaSala and husband Brandon and their children, Eric, Owen, Matthew and Lily; and son Philip and wife Elizabeth and their children, Maeve and Ezekiel. Kevin is also survived by his sisters, Susan Rinella and Nancy Rottinghaus and husband Elmer; brothers, Leo and wife Kathy and Terence and wife Kathy; brothers-in-law, John Latenser, James Marsee and wife Ellen, and Ron Franzen. He had 47 nieces and nephews. Kevin was born January 18th, 1941 at St. Mary's Hospital and grew up at 4232 Harrison. After attending grade school at St. James and high school at Bishop Lillis, he graduated from the University of Kansas -- having benefited from the Evans caddie scholarship. After college, Kevin worked for the Folgers Coffee Company downtown for one year. In 1962 he joined the U.S. Navy and became a commissioned officer. He served on the U.S.S. Bainbridge and in the Vietnam War in command of a swiftboat. Kevin married Judy Marsee in 1970 at St. Agnes. Their son David was born in 1972 -- Judy already an experienced teacher and Kevin beginning a four decade career in the law. Sarah and Philip followed in 1979 and 1980 -- Kevin having built a reputation as a successful trial attorney. As a lawyer, Kevin tried hundreds of cases nationwide. He treasured the advice of his mentors, was an example to younger lawyers and ably represented countless clients. His private practice focused on construction litigation, his pro-bono work on family law. Most recently he was a partner with the law firm of Van Osdol & Magruder. His career was defined by a respect for and ability to connect with jurors. His Catholic faith inspired him to support various causes. Kevin and Judy have been Visitation parishioners for more than 30 years. Kevin valued his friendships with other dedicated lay people, priests and nuns across the Kansas City area. Whether you called him Grandpa Kevin, Uncle Kevin or Big Kevin, he cherished the time he spent with family and friends throughout his life. The end of his life was marked by simple grace and gratitude. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 9th from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Visitation Church, 5141 Main Street. We will celebrate his life with a Mass of Christian Burial at the church on Tuesday April 10th at 10:00 am. Entombment will immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Visitation Church, Benedictine Sisters of Mt. St. Scholastica, National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence or Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care. (Online condolences may be left for the family at www.muehlebachchapel.com) M

We are very sad to have just discovered that Kevin Glynn has passed away. He was my division officer and family friend in USS Bainbridge and the only Ensign that had qualified as OOD in the world's first nuclear Frigate. I have several great stories on Ensign Glynn on the Bainbridge in the years that I knew and served with him. A man's man and the finast division officer I had in 20 years of active duty. His cousins in Aughinnis Island, Kinvara, Co. Galway will also be saddened by this news. He will be added to our prayers for the reward of heaven. Love to Judy and all the family. I just learned of Kevin's passing. He was a very special person and touched many lives. My favorite Kevinism was "If it were easy, anyone could do it." He was a very good part of the NWB legacy...

News of Kevin's death stunned me today when I saw it in the MoBar's Esq. I had the privilege of knowing Kevin for over 43 years. We practiced law together for several years. His son David was in my twins' class at Pem-Day, and I had the honor of coaching David at basketball there.

I never knew a trial lawyer or human being better than Kevin. Kevin was simply "the best", and Judy and his kids will, I trust, take solace from their knowledge of what a great man he was. In my opinion, the world is less but heaven greater for his passing.

Kevin will be greatly missed by all who knew him and his family. I had the pleasure of working with Kevin 50 plus years ago before he was married. During that time span he grew into a great husband, father, lawyer, person involved in helping others, etc., etc. He loved his family, his faith, his work and people. Kevin touched the lives of many and will always be fondly remembered.

Kevin's wife Judy has been a part of my family since she and my parents were in high school together. Her wedding to Kevin was the first I ever attended and I remember thinking that Kevin was the tallest man I had ever seen! I can't recall ever seeing him without a smile and a joke. He will be missed terribly by his family and his many friends. My positive thoughts and sympathies go out to Judy and the kids.

My most sincere condolences to the family. I had the plesasure of knowing Mr. Glynn for over 20 years in the law profession and his integrity was beyond belief. I will fondly remember him with the Big Guy with the unlighted cigar in his mouth. He was a true advocate for the justice system and all that is right.

We are all better off having known Kevin. He was a wonderful human being, who always had a way to make you smile with a good story or a good joke or a warm handshake. I will remember the many years he worked with Boy Scout Troop-84 assisting on campouts for the boys. We heard many good stories from Kevin while sitting around the campfire with our coffee. God Bless Kevin Glynn from Kevin and Barbara Mashburn
