Ronald Dean Thompson, Jr., 52, of De Soto, KS, passed away May 27, 2012. Memorial service 6 p.m. Sun., June 3, at De Soto Baptist Church, 8655 Church, De Soto, KS 66018. He grew up in De Soto and was a life-long area resident. Ron graduated from De Soto High School in 1977. Ron was a self-employed professional welder and truck driver. He owned Ron's Welding and Tippin T Ranch in De Soto. He was a member of the De Soto Baptist Church and the Missouri Draft Horse Assoc. His passion was draft horse pulling, and he participated in Missouri and Kansas sanctioned pulls. He also enjoyed farming, hunting and boating. Ron is survived by his wife of 25 years, Coleen (Randel) Thompson; children, Stacy Thompson, Olathe, KS, Shauna and George Surls, Baldwin City, KS, Kasey Del and Devin Hanney, Abilene, KS, Justin (JT) Thompson, De Soto, KS; his parents Ronald and Margaret of Clermont, FL; siblings, Teresa and Greg Scharff, Eudora, KS and Alex and Tari Thompson, De Soto, KS, and his beloved grandchildren, Aeriel, Ryan, Shane and Shana; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends and family will miss him dearly.
